Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sean Frye. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sean, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
For Me it was a simple step. Because I was an Artist that we looking for a huge vehicle to showcase my works of art and that was starting Biff! Bam! Boom! Comics (3bcomics). It was a hobby until i start taking classes at the Saint Louis Community College. I walked into my first class and it was a film making class and after it got the ball running for me. After A took a lot of writing classes to become a strong writer and storyteller. Because already had the characters since i was 12. I’m going to turn this into a business that will take me to the places i could only dream of at that time. I start doing local vendor shows around the city and began networking with everyone that like what i was doing. I just made up my mind told myself this is how we are going to feed me for the rest of my life.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve been working on this project since I was 12 years old, I wanted to create a variety of unique heroes that could establish their legacy and represent the future generations of comic book lovers. I sale Comics-book of all ages and variety and service for me is just creating “something new” What is out there and how can I put my own spin on it. I took what others viewed as a hobby and decided to create a business out of it. I’ve had several supporters, tell me that they were inspired by my work; which motivates me to continue to do what I love so much. The love I have for the world of comics and its culture will forever run through me, which is why I’m delighted to set a foundation that will kick start a long-lasting legacy, within the world of comics. OH YEAH!
Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
For Manufacturing my products it was researching my cost and figuring out what i could learn to do in house and what is a fixed cost from outsourcing. Selecting vendors wasn’t so hard in the beginning i tried a few places out first and made my decision on which one fit in my budget. For me my books a outsources from another company because it was cheaper for them to print it. and small stuff Like prints and magnets and T-Shirts are in house because it was cheaper for me to learn that skill and saving Money in some areas to help take care of those fixed costs. If you can do it yourself do it yourself and stay in your budget you set and you will do fine.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
the biggest one for me was. just because there are more experienced creators and brands around you and sell similar products as you doesn’t mean you can’t grow a customer based. You’re not competing with others around you . you are there looking for your customers that don’t to help you grow and spread the word.
