We were lucky to catch up with Sean Collins recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Sean thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear from you about what you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry and why it matters.
Corporate America is still afraid to support the CBD industry. Insurance companies and industry payers charge higher than normal amounts to companies that sell CBD. Main stream retail companies like Amazon or Etsy do not allow the selling of CBD on their platforms. Companies like Safeway and Walgreens carry a very limited amount of CBD but keep it locked up and treat it like it is a drug. Corporate America, especially retail, needs to detach themselves from the negative stigma of hemp and embrace CBD as a natural product that can benefit people in a variety of different ways.

Sean , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started my company while working for Walgreens as a Store Manager. The Farm Bill had been recently passed and many of my customers were interested in CBD but did not know anything about it or where to get it. They were looking to someone trust. Having used cannabis previously in my life, I already knew of some of the health benefits that could come from hemp. So I decided to begin researching CBD, tried it myself, and really felt a difference in my mood. I discovered how to infuse raw CBD into oil and began making it for some of my customer base so that they may too experience the life changing benefits of CBD. I then decided to try it topically for some of my aches and pains and it worked wonders! At the time, Walgreens was really pushing the idea of going big in beauty. I saw that CBD in beauty was really being underutilized, especially in all natural products, so I decided to create a company that made handmade CBD bath and body products all naturally without the harmful parabens, preservatives, and manufactured chemicals that plague mainstream beauty products today.
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
I manufacture all of my own products, plus I am a male in an industry dominated by females. I middle aged male making bath bombs makes several people do a double take. How I started was first by watching You Tube DIY videos and looking up recipes on Pinterest. From there it was tons and tons of trial and error. Myself, friends, and family all became Guinea pigs to try out my products and give feedback so that I could improve my products. It has taken me nearly 3 full years to develop a bath bomb recipe that I feel like is better than many of the big brands out on the market. I continue to watch how other people make products, listen to what my customer base likes, and give away free bees in exchange for honest feedback in order to create products that my customers will love but also feel good about using.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients has been attending different Farmer’s Markets. You have a unique opportunity to have one on one conversations with potential customers and really build a relationship with someone who may become a life long customer. I’m also not afraid to give a discount for a first time customer. The goal is to get them to try it and love your product so that they keep coming back as a loyal customer.
