We were lucky to catch up with Sean Burns recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sean, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
A principal express to me that I was wasting my time with the art of stepping & I would never make a career impacting our youth with step. Since her comment; I teach the art of stepping full time at Prodeo Academy & founded a 501c organization of Step with soul. Impacting youth all over the twin cities & beyond.

Sean, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a native of New Orleans; I’ve always been drawn to percussive sounds. Jazz is the heart beat of New Orleans; and step is making percussive sounds with hands & feet. Our young people gravitate to the arts & my calling is to provide a safe space for our young people to build there character & learn about themselves through step.😉

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Today our young people needs professional adults from the Generation X. Community is built & is sustainable through consistent human contact. My mission through the art stepping is to bring back that culture; which is lost due to social media.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to learn is that rent is due everyday; yesterday success is rented. Years ago I would get to comfortable when i experience a little success, and not work as hard. Until one day; I wasn’t prepared for a certain opportunity. From then on; I develop a habit to give my all everyday & required the same from our youth. “Success is rented & it due everyday”
