Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sean Alan Mazur. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Sean Alan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
When I think of my start, I think of when I began my training at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. My first year I studied online since we were very much in the pandemic still. However I have no regrets starting then. If I had gone to college right out of high school instead of entering military service first, I would have attended Grand Canyon University and gotten a degree I wouldn’t be happy with. If I decided to wait until the pandemic was over to begin classes I wouldn’t have made the connections I have now. I am a personal believer in destiny and that everything happens for a reason. Nothing in my life has happened by chance and everything has built upon the previous event. Allowing me to be the creative I am today; surrounded by those crucial to my journey. Starting sooner or later was never in the cards for me.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I like to have my foot in a little bit of everything entertainment industry wise. The main areas I thrive in currently are acting, music, and if you take a look at my Instagram, a little bit of modeling. This past year has consisted mostly of theater performances but I’ve recently begun to get my foot in the door of more tv/film projects. That includes a thriller short that I produced and starred in as well. As far as music, my artist name is MAXUR. It stems from the practice of being referred by last name in the military. The x represents what I hope to release in my music. It also makes the same sound as the letter z, making the pronunciation the same as my last name Mazur. Currently I am patiently waiting on strike negotiations but I have a strong team and I’m looking forward to what’s to come within the next year. Meanwhile I’m happy to have found a home at the Loft Ensemble theater company where I have been fortunate to have been cast in some life changing roles. Looking towards the more distant future the goal is to step into the directorial side of things and bring stories of the underrepresented to life.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Originally my goal was to just do what I was passionate about. However, over the past year that has changed. Growing up, I was in the foster care system for several years. At first I was with my younger half sisters but as time went on we were separated. I’m lucky to have grown up with the family that raised me because if I hadn’t perhaps I would not be alive right now. Last year I lost both of them within two months and they each left behind a young daughter. My aim is to get to a point where I’m able to make sure both are taken care of and have lives that are not cut short due to preventable circumstances. Secondly I want to share our story and hope it ignites someone out there to do what they love despite how scary or impossible it may feel. Success comes in many forms.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I think the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when a connection is made between the art and the consumer. Performances I find to be the richest are the ones that make me feel deeply. After a play if someone comes up and tells me how much they related to my character it warms my heart. Likewise, my love for music is so great because of the emotion it pulls from me. If someone listens to one of my songs and it lets them know that they’re not alone in how they feel that is something that cannot be bought. For some, art is about dollar signs but human connection through art is priceless. The beautiful thing is that it doesn’t even have to be perfect because frankly nothing is perfect and sometimes the imperfections are what we fall in love with. I choose projects that I fully have my heart in because when my heart is in it; I know that I’ll be able to reach someone else’s heart. A line said on stage or a lyric in a song can be the one thing that saves someone’s life or even generate a new wave of creativity.
