We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sean Aeon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sean, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
At this point in my career, every project I work on is my most meaningful.
As a creative, I never know what piece of material I release is going to be someone’s entry-point to my catalog, so the goal is to have it all represent what I have to offer in the highest and most authentic way.
If I’m not passionate about a project, don’t see how it will benefit people, or don’t feel I have something unique to add, I don’t have time or energy for it.
What means more than what we make time for?
With my book Fairytales From Within, it’s special because it’s the first I’ve written to be enjoyed by the whole family. I remember my mother reading to me often as a child, so being able to contribute new stories for parents to share with their children is a privilege. I’ve always admired artists who created mind-stimulating material for younger audiences, which also spoke to the universally experienced interactions we all went through while coming of age, or with those doing so. The ability and opportunity to share meaningful narratives to be explored during our most meaningful time of development means the world to me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an author, artist, humanist, and the sole-creator behind a unique intersection of material incorporating literature, philosophy, and visual art.
My work is dedicated to the promotion, progression, and deepening of our humanity and interconnectivity, through philosophical, interpersonal, and sociological commentary.
My goal is to thoroughly and thoughtfully craft stories that don’t distract, but develop.
Books I’ve authored include The Outsider’s Mind (short stories), LA on LSD (short stories), An Artbook on LSD (calligraphy and photography), and Fairytales From Within (graphic novel). Each represents energy invested into exploring and expressing the depths and dynamics of our shared experience we call life.
Psychological breakdowns and breakthroughs, spiritual awakenings and unawareness, the imaginative and the insightful, are all illustrated in these worlds as exquisitely intertwined.
An Artbook on LSD is where my first two calligraphy sets can be found: The Aeonaes One Collection, and The Aeonilism Collection. The NFTs of the Aeonaes set can be viewed on Rarible.com/aeonaesone.
The Aeonilism Collection contains an additional layer, as each piece also symbolizes an original philosophy examined in the narratives.
All of the calligraphy is hand painted in acrylic, and each brush is handmade by myself.
Fairytales From Within—my latest project, and first graphic novel—contains two narratives.
Chapter one follows the whimsical Humi and Pj, a hummingbird and a peacock whose exchange examines how the way we see ourselves alters how others see us.
Ileese and Lynn are the focus of the second account, a daughter searching for her mother who has mystically become a palm tree in Los Angeles. Their interaction looks closer into the way the lives of parents shape the lives of their children.
Stories to soothe the mind while expanding it. A stimulating read for all ages, especially those interested in conscious parenting.
My professional artistic journey has not been easy, it’s been beautiful; I’m thankful I’ve been allowed to grow into understanding why, and how, important that is. I’ve been creating in multiple mediums over the last decade, having found my voice and vision in Minimalism, Surrealism, Existentialism, and Metaphysical Fiction.
Throughout my writing, characters are navigating and perceiving themselves, their experience, and their interpretation of it all, in various ways and environments. Regardless of the variables, each character’s individual path reveals their inherent, and poetically complementary similarities. Aiming to cultivate and emphasize the universally experienced aspects of human awareness and global culture, is how I aim to share the tribal, transformative, and timeless application of storytelling activating internal inquiry.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of sharing my art is to not only have the audience connect with my material, but utilize it to connect deeper with themselves and what truly matters to them.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
What society can best do to maintain a strong foundation for creative expression, is getting educated on the uniqueness of the work going into the material, and either being okay with properly compensating the artist, or referring the artist to someone who is able to do so. Permanent burn out is so easy and so common amongst creatives, and much of it stems from not being able to create a form of financial stability in alignment with their personal integrity. The outcome is all of us, as a collective, losing out on expressions of the purest, oldest, and globally connecting forms.
