We recently connected with Scribbles Who and have shared our conversation below.
Scribbles, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
If I could go back in time, I think I would have started my creative career sooner, but with the understanding that each part of my journey has contributed significantly to who I am as an artist today.
I began my career writing songs for others in South Florida, where I had the incredible opportunity to collaborate with artists like Trina and Flo Rida. However, I took a break from music for a few years, questioning my talent and whether I truly belonged in this industry. During that time, I was exploring different aspects of life and the music business, which gave me valuable insights into resilience and adaptability.
When I returned to music as the songwriter for Ludy and later released my own EP, I realized how much I had grown. Looking back, starting my creative career sooner might have allowed me to build my confidence earlier and hone my craft more rapidly. I do feel bad removing my EP Born Again from streaming platforms, as I now see it as an essential part of my artistic evolution. I hope to re-release it someday.
That said, every experience, including my break from music, has enriched my perspective on creativity. The challenges I faced helped me embrace the ups and downs of the industry, and I’ve learned to trust my voice and the stories I want to tell. If I had started later, I might not have had the same depth of experience or understanding of my artistry.
Ultimately, I wouldn’t change the timing of my journey, as it has shaped me into a more resilient and passionate artist. My focus now is on creating music that resonates deeply with others, and I’m excited about what lies ahead.
Scribbles, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m Scribbles Who, an R&B singer-songwriter from Pompano Beach, Florida.
My journey in music began with songwriting for other artists, and over the years, I’ve collaborated with talents like Trina and Flo Rida. This experience laid a strong foundation for my artistry and inspired me to share my own voice.
As an R&B artist, I focus on crafting sounds that connect with my audience, especially those who enjoy the laid-back vibes of life, including the smokers out there! My music infuses cultural elements, particularly drawing from my Haitian heritage, which adds a unique flavor to my sound.
While I’m proud of all my work, tracks like “Get It” and “Worth It 24” stand out for me as examples of my growth and creativity. I believe what sets me apart is my commitment to authenticity and the way I blend various cultural influences into my music.
I want potential fans and listeners to know that it’s okay to experience ups and downs. My message is simple: keep doing you and don’t relent. It’s important to push through the tough times and stay true to your passion. Through my music, I hope to inspire others to embrace their journey and find strength in their own stories.
How did you build your audience on social media?
Building my audience on social media has been an organic journey. I focused on sharing my music and personal stories authentically, which helped me connect deeply with listeners. Engaging with my followers by responding to comments created a strong sense of community.
For those just starting out, my advice is to stay true to yourself. Authenticity is key—share your journey, including both successes and challenges. Consistency matters, so post regularly and engage with your audience. Collaborate with others to expand your reach, and remember that genuine connections are more important than just numbers.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Fair pay and better royalties on streaming platforms are essential to making the arts a sustainable career.
Showing love and enthusiasm for upcoming artists, much like we do for famous ones, can have a huge impact. Hyping new talent and celebrating fresh voices helps artists gain visibility and confidence, creating a more supportive creative ecosystem.
