We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Scotty Gaine$. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Scotty below.
Scotty, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned how to rap and produce music by first listening intently to all my favorite hip-hop artist. Before I was an artist myself I was a avid fan. I listened and still do to all the relevant music in my particular genre as well as from other genres as well. Knowing what I know now I could have speed up my learning process by learning music theory and practicing drumming out my favorite beats on the MPC. I think having a sense of direction when I create is most essential to my process. I have to both hear and visualize what I want to make before ever touching a microphone or beat machine. It all starts in my mind, then translates to the music. Sometimes an idea is enough to spark a whole storm of creativity. I would say fear of people not liking my art was the number one obstacle that I first had to overcome in order to grow as an artist. Once I stopped caring what people thought of my music it seemed to come more naturally and still does today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
“They know it’s me, Scotty G!” I first started rapping and producing professionally in 2012 as part of a duo called L.B.C. We began doing shows locally in Oklahoma and Texas opening up for Lil Flip and Big Tuck. After that fizzled out I began my solo career as Scotty Gaine$. Since then i have released 6 albums and multiple mixtapes and continue to do so at a prolific pace. I pride myself on my work ethic and consistency and strive to create and release new music constantly. Not only do i rap but i also produce and engineer a lot of my own music as well. I would say that my creativity and willing to make music outside the box is what sets me apart from a lot of other artist in my field. My sound is very east coast inspired fusing soul samples with hard hitting drums to bring a very emotional experience for the listener. I try to give my audience a look into my deepest thoughts while also making music that is fun to listen too. I am most proud of the longevity i have been able to obtain through hard work and dedication to my craft. Though i have had many doubters i have never gave up on my dream and continue to pursue it whole heartedly. My wife and I run a independent record label called “Infinite Records” which seeks to establish our brand worldwide and make an impact on the music industry as a whole. Our website weawa.life showcases our work and continues to be the forefront of our brand.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being an artist is the feedback I get from people that enjoy my music. For example, when me, my wife, and my son recently attended our tribes annual Greencorn Festival I was able to catch up with my cousin Casey who I hadn’t seen in a year. He informed that he had been in LA taking some time to get himself right with his now wife whom he married out there. While spending time in LA he listened to my song “Better Today’ which is one of my more obscure tracks that honestly doesn’t have many views. The song is all about finding hope in today and not beating yourself up too bad about past mistakes, instead moving on and focusing on a better today. He told me that this song really had impacted him in a positive way and helped him get through some hard times. I was really happy that one of my songs could impact someone in a positive way and encourage them, as I made that song when I myself was going through some struggles. It reminded me why I make music and too continue to put out positive vibes and encouraging words because you never know who might be in need of it!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I would say that self expression is the particular goal that is driving my creative journey currently. As my artistry has evolved I have learned to value the therapeutic effects that creating music has had and continues to have on my life. After I write a song I tend to feel some relief knowing that I have been able to express myself in the most unadulterated and pure form. Not only has writing helped me improve as an artist but It has also made me a better human being and gave me insight into my own mind. When I listen to the music I’ve created it takes me back to that particular moment in time and how I felt. It has become almost like a journal of my life for the whole world to view. This is turn makes me happy knowing that someone will probably be able to relate and feel the same relief listening to the song as I did when I made it. This drives me to make as much music as possible and keep it true to how I feel in that moment. Music is a universal language and I enjoy listening as much as I do creating. As I continue along my musical journey I am constantly discovering new things about myself which in turn helps me to grow. This is what drives me to continue the process endlessly!
