We recently connected with Scott StJohn and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, thanks for joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
My defining moment led to my professional career. I was about seven years old when I complained to my grandfather about not being able to accomplish a task. “I can’t do it”, I said. He stopped me in my tracks, looked firmly at me, and pointed his finger at me, saying, “Don’t ever use the word can’t; it’s not in the St.John dictionary.” I never forgot that moment, and from then on, I never used the word can’t.
Fast forward to my professional career, where I initially worked with children and later with adults. My passion was to instill the attitude that ‘they could do anything if they put their mind to it.’ So, my defining moment happened when I was very young, and for that, I was very fortunate.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I grew up in a small town in Vermont, surrounded by a family-owned business and a strong work ethic. From a very young age, I was taught never to use the word “can’t” because “can’t” is not in the St John dictionary. Despite being a small-town boy, I harbored big dreams of venturing into the wider world I saw I out there.
During college, I had a class with a girl I fell in love with. Even before we started dating, I confided in my best friend that I was going to marry her. Fast forward 28 years, and after starting multiple businesses together, we’re still going strong.
We left college to help launch an education company in the early ’90s, alongside her parents. Our mission was to teach children how to use technology as a tool, not a toy. We empowered them to express themselves, think critically, problem-solve, and ultimately, succeed.
Later on, I channeled my skills into the fitness industry and opened gyms in Denver, Colorado. While we gained a reputation for offering one of the toughest workouts around, it wasn’t just about physical exertion. It was about the mindset I instilled in our clients. I called them “strong confident people” because I knew that if they believed in themselves, they could achieve anything, even the most challenging workouts.
We ensured that everyone, whether losing 100 pounds or pursuing an Iron Man goal, left our gym feeling capable and empowered. In 2018, my wife, a mindset coach, and I, an attitude coach who used movement as a tool, launched a company called “Strong, Confident Living.” We focused on three core aspects: movement, mindset, and nutrition. Our goal was to help people break free from limitations.
We offer online courses, six-week semi-private courses, and in-person retreats for those looking to unlock their potential. We also partnered with “Flip My Life” to provide top-notch nutritional products because we believe that feeling physically well is essential for clear thinking.
I feel incredibly blessed to have the opportunity to impact people’s lives positively. We keep it real and authentic, showing that life isn’t always about rainbows. We teach people how to push through challenges and emerge victorious. We demonstrate that anyone can do it, that they can achieve anything with the right mindset.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve had the opportunity to pivot many times in life, both personally and professionally. I believe it’s actually important to pivot throughout your life. My wife and I, along with our 3 boys, have moved 8 times. Some people call us crazy, but we say home is where we are, no matter where that is. We’ve taught our boys how roots are cultivated; you just don’t take them for granted. I believe that by doing this, we’ve created three resilient and strong young men. Let’s face it; we could use that today. So, I actually challenge people to pivot, to think bigger. We are capable of doing so much more than we think we can! Why? Because most don’t think they can! “It all starts between the ears,’” as I say!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Simple… My Attitude. My attitude is simple. I believe everyone is capable. I believe in giving everything you’ve got, no matter how small the task. I teach people not to negotiate with their goals. Some would say I’m a “hard ass.” However, it’s my belief in people that makes them rise up. It’s not because I’m telling them to do something like a drill sergeant. Instead, I ask them to accomplish something because I believe they can. I have a very unique talent: I’m able to see inside people and pull out their greatness, most of the time before they even notice it themselves.
