We recently connected with Scott Romosa and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Scott thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
For the most part, I don’t lean towards getting validation from anyone on the outside. I can’t forget the reason I started making music in the first place. It was never for other people to understand it, because not everything is meant to be understood, but for me to express the traumas, pain, experiences & moods I go through. If certain listeners or watchers can relate to or share similar feelings as me through my music…well that pretty much explains itself. Only time outside validation is relevant is when it comes down to streams & shit or how many people pop out to your shows.
The group im currently in “Mafia 9” has fasho came across some mischaracterizations. People from time to time at shows say we are a “Reincarnation” of the legendary Three 6 Mafia, but I personally disagree and i’m solid my brothers do too. Yeah we are extremely influenced & inspired by them, even down to the sound & look , bwe will always give respects to the originals of the hip hop we’ve been hearing for 2 decades. I can’t speak for all the homies as of right now but that’s something known between the 3 of us (me, Cancer Creek, & 6lonelyhearts). That’s about the only thing that’s been somewhat misunderstood about us as artist. We all have a sound that’s different but still meshes together and a lot of people have understood that for the most part.
Scott , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Scott Romosa; a 20 year old Producer, Artist, Mixing Engineer, Entrepreneur etc. from Memphis, TN. I started taking my craft seriously at 16 but was messing around on Garageband on my iPhone when i was 13-14. I mainly producer music with different artists, but i occasionally write, record, & produce for myself well, something im looking to do more often. I’m apart of a 3 man group called Mafia 9(me, Cancer Creek, & 6lonelyhearts), which i started in 2020.
When recording and working with artists i genuinely like to know who it is i’m working with, so for the most part the first session doesn’t have to involve nothing but work. I talk to the artist and give advice if it makes sense. I rather my space to be a place where you can let those things in life you deal with get lifted for the time being. I’ve been told many times i create a environment where people feel comfortable & at home, allowing artists to be themselves.
I’m most proud of how much i’ve developed my sound & confidence within 2-3 years using Fl Studio. Sculpting a sound has been a main priority from the start solely because nowadays shit sound the same. If im gone step into the game i’m not coming with no weak shit.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Recently I quit my job working as a hotel valet. It was good money but away time that could’ve been used to work on music or business. It got to a point it was unhealthy for me. I wasn’t well rested, i barely made it to shows to perform, didn’t have time for opportunity filled sessions. So i sacrificed my job to fully focus on my career. Now i’m just looking at different formulas for my craft to get in front of the eyes of people.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
The goal is to be able take care of myself, my family, & the homies. I also want to enjoy this life shit cause it’s way too short to be stressing out about temporary things and/or people.
