We recently connected with Scott Raven and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Like so many men, I chased the corporate ladder in the pursuit of gains in my career and my family’s wealth at the expense of health and true connection. When my executive position was eliminated in 2017, it left a gaping hole as that role had become a large part of my identity. Without it, I fell into a deep depression worsened by alcoholism and landed in the hospital with severe hypertension — strong chest, back, and head pains and a blood pressure of 180/110. I had to look at my son, who was young at the time, and consider what if that was the last day he saw his daddy.
Since that time, I’ve been on a journey to achieve my definition of success across career, health, wealth, and true connection. I have had both successes and challenges that I have faced, but through it all I have learned to lead myself in association with my true values. I now bring that wisdom through my practice to other family oriented men so that they may achieve their legacy.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into professional coaching two years ago after a failed entrepreneurial venture in another industry. There were many factors and lessons that I learned from that experience, but the biggest ones involved who I truly was and what my unique superpowers were. In discovering those, I made the jump into coaching to positively impact the lives of as many men as I could, particularly those like me who have strong affinity towards their family.
Through my practice, I help family oriented men solve the challenges they face in pursuit of the life they truly want, and often do not speak about. We start by enhancing what they are already good at so that they can grow in their career, prime good health habits, gain financially, and truly bond with themselves. We then expand that foundation to their tribe — their family and close friends — so that they are creating true positive impact for the people who mean the most to them. Finally, we extend those efforts to their community at large so they personify the person they wish to be and leave the legacy they desire.
I’m most proud of the lives I’m able to positively impact through this work — not just my clients, but the people in my client’s circles. It’s truly a ripple effect of good that is created across all.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2018, I was still on my journey to overcoming my underlying anxiety issues as I prepared to run Boston Marathonon behalf of the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The weather conditions for the Marathon were the worst in nearly 30 years — near freezing temperatures, steady rain throughout, and headwinds up to 30 mph. My body was sending me very strong signals to not participate in the days leading up to the race, but I pushed through and ran the course along with my fellow teammates. Just under 5 hours later, I crossed the finish line on Boylston have overcome things that no one else could see or experience but myself and proving to myself that I’m capable of doing tough things. It was this event that eventually allowed me to bring my underlying anxiety issues into full control and allowed me to pursue the success that I’m achieving today.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Late in 2019, I was once again informed that my executive position would be eliminated in a coming reduction-in-force, similar to two years prior. It would have been very easy for me to simply take my severance, catch my breath, and re-enter the corporate workforce with the likely outcome of the next executive role being the same. But I made the decision to leave corporate America and pursue entrepreneurship. I was focused not only on building a business that would provide for my family, but also have a legacy of good within the community. Those elements that have remained true today in the professional leadership practice I run, and it allows me to live my legacy with each passing day.
