We were lucky to catch up with Scott Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Scott, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I released an Album January 2024 called “Junk Drawer Dimes”. I funded the project by myself and wrote all of the songs and, with the help of my producer, I collected a group of the most talented musicians in Columbus, Ohio to help make my vision come to light. It’s a ten song album that includes brand new songs, as well as old songs that were apart of a failed project in 2012. I got the name “Junk Drawer Dimes” from the idea that those old songs hidden for so long still have truth and meaning and deserve to see the light of day, and I feel like that describes me as well, and I know others feel the same.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started playing music at the age of 14, but I’ve been drawn to it my whole life. I’ve always been fascinated with stories and melodies and the mixing of the two. You can convey so much with the right notes and the right words.
I’ve been performing around the Ohio area since 2010. I’ve played bars, coffee shops, festivals, weddings, and any type of event you can think of. I know over 300 folk songs and many other tunes and classic standards by the likes of Bob Dylan, Jim Croce. Hank Williams and Jimmie Rodgers. I’ve also penned close to 100 original tunes of my own as well
My goal with my music is to follow the muse as far as it will take me, and to share it with the rest of the world Music is a beautiful and wonderful thing, and I feel a great sense of fulfillment sharing songs and passing along stories and knowledge to others.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
What drives my creative journey is the art of songwriting. I want to master my craft and write stuff that sounds like it was always meant to be. I want to write the standards of the new age and to help pass that love of the craft to others so they too can add to the American songbook.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Sharing my music with the world. It’s hard as an independent artist to get heard. It’s the number 1 hurdle almost everyone faces when they decide to play music. But at the end of the day it is totally worth all of the blood sweat and tears. To sing a song and capture an audience and for just that brief moment in time they felt what you felt when you wrote the song…it’s magic. That sounds cliche, but it’s true.
