We were lucky to catch up with Scott & Holly Stafford recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Scott & Holly , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
We have been in business for roughly 10 yrs. We are a husband-and-wife team. We help with the design, concept, and paint colors for your project.
Holly is an absolute artist and an absolutely stunning painter and super creative as well. 99% of everything she draws or lays out is all done by hand.
We do custom woodworking specializing in one of custom design pieces.
We specialize in custom signs, cornhole boards, furniture. and basically, take your idea and make it a reality.
Holly and I will actually sit down with you and go over every single aspect of your build. We help take the idea in your head and make it come to life.
We help with design, Size, paint colors. Letter font style, every single aspect of your build. As the build is progressing, we will text you pictures to keep you updated. We are not a mass-producing company and use a lot of slab wood so some of our projects can take 2 weeks to 8 months from start to finish as we are doing everything by hand.
The joy and smiles that the customers give us when they see what we have done for them is why we love doing this.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
We have self-funded this business since day one. We have never taken a loan out and are not planning too anytime soon.
As a guy that like to work on stuff, I had tools and Holly and her paint bushes and as we grew, we have taken money from each project and invested it back in to the business and bought better tools and supplies. We are still happy to say that each build funds the next build and currently we have 2-8 builds going on at the same time in all different stages of the process.
Holly and I are in a really unique position with what we have built and how we run our business. There are only the tow of us so we are still doing this out of our home so we can keep the bills smaller and our overhead down by not having a large building etc. This also helps us keep the pricing down for our customers as well.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our reputation has and always will be built one client at a time. We rely on our clients talking to others about us during the process and showing off the final project to everyone.
We rely heavy on giving our customers the ultimate WOW FACTOR to them. We actually setup and do a reveal for each customer. Taking pictures and videos and then posting them on our social media and asking them to do the same. We rely heavy on the client and social media.
Scott came up with an idea to help spread the name even more. When the customer receives their item then we give the customer a free gift that has our logo and business cards in it to them as a THANK YOU. So far, every customer has been thrilled with our attention to detail, creativeness, and willing to go the extra mile when they didn’t ask for it.
