Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Scott Currie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Scott, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Moving to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico was one of the biggest risks I’ve ever taken. I was following my girlfriend at the time (we are married now) to move to a new country I didn’t really know. I left behind my family, friends, and a sense of security, to step into the unknown. I had just finished graduate school and didn’t have a clear path after graduating. Moving to a new county definite had many moments of doubt, fear, and discomfort.
But in taking that risk, I found so much more than I expected. I learned how to speak Spanish, adapt to new places and realize that I can take on anything.
It was here that we had our daughter and started our yoga retreat center!
Scott, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, I’m Scott, co-founder of Sagrada Wellness, a retreat center that my wife Eva and I created in the hills just outside San Luis Obispo, California. We’ve been running Sagrada for over 15 years now, and it’s been one of the most rewarding chapters of my life, personally, professionally, and spiritually.
My journey into this work wasn’t exactly conventional. I came from a background in design and building, while Eva had a strong foundation in yoga and holistic wellness. Years ago, we were living in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, an incredibly inspiring place, rich with art, healing traditions, and a deep connection to community. That’s where we had our first child and first started dreaming of a different kind of life. One rooted in creativity and service.
When we moved back to California, we stumbled upon a piece of land in Santa Margarita that felt alive with potential. It was wild, quiet, and sacred. We knew almost immediately that this was the place. Over time, we built it into what is now.
We host wellness and yoga retreats focused on healing, connection, and slowing down. We offer accommodations, nourishing meals, daily yoga classes, and a peaceful environment where people can truly unplug and reset. We also welcome outside teachers to bring their groups here and hold their own retreats. What we provide is more than a venue, it’s an energy, a feeling. It’s the kind of place where people come to take a breath, reevaluate, and often leave with more clarity and peace than they arrived with.
What makes Sagrada different is that it’s our home. It’s not a corporate wellness center. We raised our kids here, we live here, and we pour our souls into the land and the experience. Guests tell us they feel that as soon as they arrive that there’s a calmness and authenticity that’s hard to explain.
I’m most proud of the fact that we’ve kept it small, personal, and real. We’ve hosted thousands of guests over the years, and many of them return year after year, which is the greatest compliment we could ever ask for.
It’s not just a business to us. It’s a life’s work.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
After graduating from architecture school, I quickly realized I had made a vocational mistake. I didn’t enjoy the work. Spending long hours behind a computer screen felt disconnected and unfulfilling. I knew I needed to make a change. That realization became a turning point for both Eva and me. We began thinking seriously about creating a life and a business that allowed us to connect with people in a more authentic way. That desire to build something meaningful, grounded in real human connection is what ultimately led to the creation of Sagrada Wellness.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met Eva at the University of Oregon. She was cool, beautiful, and incredibly interesting. From the beginning, we connected deeply, and we’ve been adventuring and having fun together ever since. Today, she’s not only my wife, but also my business partner and the amazing mother of our two children.
