We recently connected with Scilence and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Scilence thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Has your work ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized?
I’ve always been misunderstood as an artist. often mischaracterized but that’s the normal nature of people, to judge you before they listen to your music. I remember a live performance I did at a venue about 1 year ago. The dj was very snappy and projected their bad mood on the artists backstage before the performance. Which that negative projection I noticed was only targeted towards the artist’s he didn’t know personally. After I did my performance the dj then displayed the total opposite towards me. I coupd tell he clearly favored my performance. But he still kept that same negative energy towards some of the artist’s which performances he clearly didn’t favor as much. That’s one of my experiences that had shown me people don’t expect much from me as an artist.
Scilence, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m an audio engineer and artist. My genre is synth pop. My latest work is my 2023 release “Scilence Unplugged (The Live L.P)” It was written, produced, mixed & mastered by me. This project was more of a live rendition of a bunch of fan favorite songs, and very genre bending. It’s my best work so far and the genre’s include classical orchestra , jazz, country, synth pop, reggae, and hip hop.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My newest project has a plethora of different genres. Making a project sound like this was amazing to create but definitely has its drawbacks because it’s hard to market. Playlist curators can’t find a place for it in their playlists, so it’s frustrating at times. But I wouldn’t do anything differently. Some curators mentioned that in certain areas in songs like “DUI”, they couldn’t understand everything I was saying. But it was more of a creative decision for me to mumble during specifics parts of the song because I wanted to capture the under the influence vibe. But seems like that idea was totally missed and thats okay. I think most people aren’t going to understand my style at first, but I’d say I’m used to it now. I’ll just keep going because I like doing it. I’m literally my biggest fan lol!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I would just like to gain more momentum with my fanbase. I’ve been growing more so by word of mouth and my music videos as opposed to getting picked up by playlists. My subscibers have grown tremendously on youtube and my music videos are getting great amounts of traffic. My goal is to never stop and to keep putting out content.
