We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Schakara Arrazola-Tiscareno a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Schakara , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with talking about how you serve the underserved, because in our view this is one of the most important things the small business community does for society – by serving those who the giant corporations ignore, small business helps create a more inclusive and just world for all of us.
As a Texture Hair Specialist, I have heard from many clients their frustrating experiences with find a hairdresser that can support their natural hair texture.
I think it’s important to help all clients feel comfortable regardless of texture.
Let’s be honest: fine, thin or thinning hair can be a real struggle.
The crazy thing is that it’s not a topic that many people talk about, despite the fact that countless women & men deal with it.
I use my Master Extension Certification, knowledge and skills to beautifully place rows of 100% ethnic Remy hair to add fullness and depth back into the crown.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been Cosmetology since 2008.
I remember being a little girl with my Dad at his business meetings, standing behind the office chair he was seated in, styling his hair. Which consisted of the 90s butterfly clips and scrunchies.
I have worked as a Stylist for major productions such as Denver Fashion Week and other runway shows. As well as Editorial and Print work for publications.
Currently I am behind the chair at Root Republic offering Hair and Waxing services for Men and Women.
I approach each service with a holistic perspective, prioritizes long-term hair goals that create stunning looks. Balancing innovation and creativity with a client-focused approach, I feel my versatility and dedication to my art and craft shines through high fashion and the personalized salon environment.
I am most proud of my hybrid hair installations that accommodate to each client’s specific hair needs that feel and look good without damaging the natural hair.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
A lot has changed over the years with marketing. Social Media has become a big platform for many businesses to share content with potential client leads.
The beauty industry still strives on word of mouth, referrals and recommendations. We are in the world of customer service built off the foundation of genuine connection and kindness.
Which are key elements to any long lasting relation.
How did you build your audience on social media?
With that being said, I use my social media platforms to share my work with others. It’s a digital portfolio that shares my art and valuable information to get the most out of your experience.
We are often our biggest critics, don’t allow your judgements are biases to prevent you from showing your craft.
Your art will attract those that align with your work.
