Scean Ellis and Karen Lewis, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Scean came up with the idea. She has shared that God gave her the idea. We were both on our wellness journeys, and she wanted to help other women experience optimal health and wellness. She asked me to journey with her.
We know how important women are, and how much we take care of our partners, children, parents and colleagues. However, we often neglect ourselves. We wanted to help women choose themselves first and do some self-care so that they could be well first and then serve others.
We named the company after our Mothers, who both succumbed to cancer. Our products help our customers feel better. We are a CBD company rooted in wellness. Our products include a sleep gummy, a pain reliever roll-on, an energy – focus capsule and a calming gummy, which presses down on anxiety. We also have beautiful candles with stellar scents.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Again, Scean and I were on our respective wellness journeys and were very transparent with each other on what was ailing us and where we thought we could improve our health. We figured if we had challenges, other women, who included our friends, sisters, cousins, and colleagues were probably experiencing similar challenges, and we wanted to help. We tapped into our collective Sales, Marketing and PR backgrounds and founded Melody Rose Organics, to help women with their ailments so they could be their best selves.
We are most proud of the products and the impact they have had thus far on our customers, and their families and communities. If we feel at our best, so do those around us, especially our loved ones.
We believe in natural and holistic products, and that’s what we offer.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Our most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been sharing our products with friends and conforming those friends into ambassadors. We recognize that one of the best marketing strategies is word of mouth. We believe in our products so much, that they speak for themselves…and then those who get to experience them will speak for them as well.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of our key lessons was to discern that we could not rely on our friends and families to be our only consumers. It just would not be fair to them or the best selling strategy. That said, of course, we continue to share our products with our friends and families via our newsletter and social media. However, we also do marketplaces, pop-ups, parties and other events to captivate additional female audiences to be successful and give back as best we can so we can help our communities achieve wellness and optimal health.
