We recently connected with Scarlette and have shared our conversation below.
Scarlette, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My fall/winter 2026 collection was extremely challenging but ultimately rewarding. I had 3 weeks to prepare 10 outfits which seemed like no problem because I had about 10-12 outfits completed at this time. A week later I go to the dress rehearsal and only 5 models fit in the outfits I had. This was a really big show and I couldn’t just put 5 models in it. So at this point I had no choice but to crochet 5 new outfits in 2 weeks. I gave myself just enough time each day to complete each outfit with the care and attention to detail that I would any other time. These outfits mean a lot to me because I proved myself right- and that means that I developed the confidence that I need to elevate my brand to the next level. I believe that was a breakthrough for me.

Scarlette, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Scarlette; I am a designer from Pennsylvania. I have been crocheting for over 10 years and have been making clothes for just over 1 year. I can crochet anything, but I found my passion in making clothes. Everything I make is one of a kind, unique, and made with love in every stitch! I don’t usually follow patterns because I have a hard time understanding them. Sometimes, I surprise myself because my hands just know what to do.
I was introduced to the fashion world when I decided to start modeling to promote myself for my work as a dancer. I have been dancing off and on for 6 years. Initially I fell into that path for survival and have always come back to it; in the past two years I began to embrace it and I feel very grateful for the club that I work at now. It’s not a typical strip club environment.
As I visited different photography studios and networked with different models, designers, photographers, and other creatives, I realized the potential in my craft and decided to lock in and dedicate my free time to crocheting clothes. Over the past year I have been a designer for 5 fashion shows and I have grown so much as an artist and a person. I can’t wait to see what the future holds!

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The easiest, absolutely free way to support artists is through social media. Liking, engaging, and sharing a post from an artist you like contributes to their success. Sometimes we get sucked into social media and just scroll, scroll, scroll. Don’t forget to engage.
Word of mouth is also free and very helpful. If your musician friend needs cover art, point them to your artist friends! I trust my friends and their opinions so when they tell me which brands they shop with I listen.
Most importantly, shop with us. Think of your artist friends when holidays and birthdays come up! Instead of decorating your house with art from department stores, get a custom painting made that your grandkids grandkids can hang in their home.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I have been active and posting on Facebook since 2013, and YouTube and Instagram since 2014. My first YouTube video was an ASMR video that I made for a long-distance Facebook friend. It was too long to send over messenger so I just posted it to YouTube. It ended up getting a lot of views and people found my voice really relaxing so (very infrequently) I continued to post ASMR videos. Meanwhile, I used Facebook and Instagram for memes and talking to friends. I let the YouTube channel go as my teenage years went on and got locked out of the account. I made a new page and rebuilt a new audience.
I really regret not staying consistent; my life could have gone in a completely different direction had I committed to YouTube when it initially took off. My biggest advice would be to stay consistent. Even if you don’t see results, keep staying consistent and eventually the universe will have to give you results! One day I realized that if I keep trying statistically I cannot fail. So many people don’t achieve their goals because they act on how they feel instead of powering through and staying consistent. Because of my YouTube channel I’m now able to promote my brand to a wide audience.
