Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Scarlett Cowie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Scarlett thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Parents can play a significant role in affecting how our lives and careers turn out – and so we think it’s important to look back and have conversations about what our parents did that affected us positive (or negatively) so that we can learn from the billions of experiences in each generation. What’s something you feel your parents did right that impacted you positively.
Starting my brand at the age of 13 means my parents had a significant impact on the growth and development of my brand. The most important factor in my growth is that they believed in me, and they weren’t afraid to let me pursue my dreams and help me along the way. Without my parent’s influence to truly just go for it i don’t think I would be where I am today. I am so grateful for them choosing to believe in me.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hey!
I’m Scarlett i am 17 years old and the owner and the vision behind Sunchaser Clothing. Born and raised on the east coast of Australia, I love to spend my time by the ocean surfing and exploring up and down the coast. The ocean is at the heart of my brand and its where I get majority of my inspiration from, especially when it comes to new prints and designs.I launched this brand after just freshly turning thirteen in October of 2020 starting out selling beach inspired clothing and jewellery, but I always knew I wanted to expand to something greater that wouldn’t just create new pieces but give back to our earth for all it provides I just didn’t know where to start.
In the winter of 2021, I realised there was a real lack in the market for sustainable swimwear that would support you in the surf, so I decided to put my love for the ocean and cute swimwear together and create my very own sustainable swim collection which would be created out of recycled plastics.
So, in August of 2021 I began to design my very own sustainable swimwear collection learning new things each and every day, going through the process of sampling and testing out our swim pieces so we were ensured they ticked all our boxes.
After months of blood sweat and tears March of 2022 came around and I launched my very first, hand drawn and designed collection Our Day Dreamer Collection which was a real pinch me moment. The immense amount of support and love shown to this collection is surreal after pouring your heart into something and seeing that other people do really like it is such a good feeling and I’m so forever grateful for all the love.
I am most proud of being able to grow my brand along side going to school for three years!
How did you build your audience on social media?
If i had one piece of advice for listeners wanting to grow on social media is consistency and choosing to post about what you are interested. It is much easy to be consistent on socials when you are interested and engaged in your own content. You have to really live your brand as a founder. I would also say interact with your customers as they are truly your biggest supporters!
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I would say the best way to stay in touch with my customers is by connecting to them and producing pieces I know they want, bringing my followers along on my design process is a crucial part of this connection along with posting things that are known as ‘nuture’ posts made specifically for my customers rather than for new followers.
