We recently connected with Savoya Nyantakyi and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Savoya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
Starting anything in life always requires us to first overcome the mental process of whether or not that particular thing can be done. For me I remember sitting in my home office. I had all the motivating slogans nicely placed all around the space to offer encouragement and to promote the ideals that would soon come forth from my mind. When you’re sitting in your creative space there’s always a moment of mental meandering that happens when you are playing around with ideals and wondering which one makes sense, and that’s what was happening with me. I thought about all the things that I was currently doing within my own life that I was not making money with and then I thought about the need of others. After that it became clear to me that the very things that I were already doing within my personal life and the needs of others outside of those walls were in direct correlation of how I could be of service to someone and also make good money doing it. In that same moment I felt there was no time to waste so I sat down and researched my new business idea. I wanted to really understand the ins and out of how everything would function and I also needed to make sure if this business was something I really wanted to do. It’s important to give yourself an edge by knowing how your competitors operate and function their business, so I spent an entire day calling around the competition and inquiring about prices and fees. I wanted to know how they communicated with their potential customer. How they labeled their services. What payment options they offered. I mean if they were doing it I wanted to know. It wasn’t really important to me to know the why, I figured I would learn that as I went along. Just a days worth of phone calls and email inquires gave me an understanding of how I would price my products and services going forward. In any business there are always the good and bad or should I say the up’s and downs. It goes without saying that the pros outweighed the cons and I forged ahead. After understanding the numbers and coming up with my own criteria for how I would price my services. On day 2 I wrote down a simplified version of steps that I would implement, this was my roadmap, and it led me to my official launch day. This included any training programs and processes that helped me in becoming familiar with my new business venture. For me I find this implementation time to be the most enjoyable. It also brought out my creative side. Even though I researched and reviewed other similar business processes I found my own perspective in how I wanted my business to flourish so that it can stand apart from its competitors. It took me a total of 3 days to launch my business and all it cost me was time and effort.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I consider myself a jack of carefully thought out trades, but more specifically I am all about how I can add value and relief to someone else life and circumstances. If it’s healing I believe my own experiences can aide someone from their personal struggles. If it’s guidance I can show you how to to use your very own navigation system. Because life is just all about maneuvering, detours, traffic jams and back roads. The trick is once you figure out that timing is everything. Those things that challenge us in life become a lot less impactful. For example I know to not intentionally leave the house at 5pm because that is when traffic is at its peak and I don’t want to get caught up in that. Of course some things are out of out control but if most of our days are carefully thought out then when we run into those moments that we can’t do anything about we are not so moved by the disruption. I consider myself to be a creative person that currently has chosen to put my hands in a few things that I enjoy doing. First, I am an aspiring writer, I am currently working on my first fiction novel. No current finish date but keep your eyes peeled as that is something that will certainly touch the hands of many in the future. I am also the host of my own writers podcast called The Shadow Writers Podcast streaming on Spotify. This stems from my desire to be a successful author in the world of fiction, so I have decided to help others who are finding this particular journey to be challenging which brings me to my next career and one that I hold dear to my heart. I am a certified life coach with “Pretty Little Life Co” my specialty is in family life and teen development. I wanted to be apart of helping families navigate the challenges that often start at home and ultimately create the good or bad individuals we have in todays society. It is important to me to help families understand that the way we handle our differences behind closed doors can also affect how we handle our differences in public. Additionally with our youth and young adults, I believe they need to understand that life is not a one size fit’s all and it’s okay to not have it all figured out, yet a small portioned plan with the expectation that you may not like something is okay. Try something else is the approach we should take in our personal and professional life, no one should feel stuck on a hamster wheel. Finally, I am also the CEO of a residential and commercial cleaning business, “Rising Shine Cleaning Co”. I believe this goes back to serving others. Within my company we believe integrity, and relatable professionalism is key. We want our customers to feel impowered to be better after every service. The way we convey this message is by offering our customers things they can actively do to prevent and maintain the fantastic work we provide for them. The smiles we leave behind is why we continue to do what we do and that will never stop. What makes me so very happy about the things that I am involved in is that I believe that there are no stones left unturned and it doesn’t matter what room I step in I take each of my hat’s with me and I am accessible to those who need it.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
What I know to be a tried and true way to obtain new clients for your business has always been word of mouth. This can be in the form of a simple conversation amongst friends or associates or it could be from passive reviews from previous clients. Either way it goes both of these are essential to your businesses growth.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I remember when I thought I wanted to start my own women shoe business. I figured hey, I’m a women, I like heels and sandals so why not. Well that didn’t go so well. I set out to research and find a vendor that I could purchase shoes at a wholesale price. I quickly realized that the kind of shoes I liked to wear was really different then what was trending. It appeared that my not wanting to follow the crowd mentality had trickled down into my business and I found out that I was a little behind on what was in and what was not. By the time I had realized that my 90’s mentality was not what the women of the millennium were currently doing, I had already bought several boxes of colorful shoes that only sold to a very small amount of people. Another thing I realized was that I really didn’t enjoy selling products as much as I thought I would. Of course that has changed since then just a little, now that I understand selling a bit differently. But back then it was not what I wanted to do, so I decided to close the business down ultimately giving away all the shoes I had purchased at wholesale price for free.
