We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Savon Butler a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Savon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
3 months ago Patty let me slip on her wetsuit, handed me a surfboard, and walked me out to the shore. The air had that crisp bite that pulled me right back to my hometown in Juneau. Every step through the sand was this tug-of-war between the nerves in my belly and the spark of excitement that got me there.
We made small talk, and before I knew it, I let slip the doubt hanging around in my gut—wondering out loud if I even wanted to surf that day.
I felt like a chicken on the edge of a wide-open road, thinking maybe I didn’t belong there.
But the minute I stepped onto that sand, board in hand and Patty right beside me, I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
She nudged me to test my balance, and while I was bobbing on that board, nerves on fire, my mind was already drifting off to the ocean’s lullaby. It was like I could feel the salt slipping over my hands, my heartbeat steady but racing, a daydream of a memory that hadn’t happened yet.
It was like I’d been here before, even if I hadn’t.
I drove 152 miles, two and a half hours, just to pull back the mask I’d been hiding behind and let myself be, fully out there on the water.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Savon, the heart and soul behind Erth Bodi—a space inspired by storytelling, self-discovery, and a love for flow that just can’t be bottled up.
My wellness journey started with the tug of needing to feel at home in my own skin while finding ways to break free from the boxes life can stick you in. Whether it’s the quiet work of journaling, the freeing flow of yoga, or the wild beauty of living in Pacific Northwest, Erth Bodi is here to help folks explore their world.
With workshops, yoga classes, and custom digital journals, we’re laying the groundwork for you to walk your own unique story—unedited. We know that self-doubt is loud, and life is a grind, that’s why our workshops are here to help you get through all that noise and reconnect with the heart of who you are.
For me, this work is all about holding space for people to be who they are, with no apologies needed. It is also about equipping you with the tools to connect deeper with yourself and the collective. Erth Bodi is all about mind, body, and soul—the way we live and show up in the world—and letting that way of life be a gift to the world.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was 23 when I first found my calling in massage. From the get-go, I loved the way it felt to hold space for folks, letting them settle in, relax, and just be in their own skin. That path took me through luxury spas, MMA gyms, and even led me to teaching—each place adding a layer of depth to what I knew the healing journey could look like.
Then came the lockdown, and like everyone, my partner and I shifted gears. We settled into a quieter, slower way of life, started our family, and began making decisions with our little ones in mind. For me, that slower rhythm was an open door to go deeper into my yoga practice. I came out on the other side of it all as a yoga guide, integrating in my alternative medicine practices that let people tune in and take a breath from the hustle.
I get that sometimes you just need a reminder that you don’t have to wear a mask for the world all the time. My work now is about helping folks reconnect with who they are, peeling back those layers to find the calm underneath.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
To work in this field, you gotta be willing to sit in your own skin, really feel it, and share what the feels like inside with the world. Whether I’m holding space for someone in a Thai massage session or leading a meditation, I know it only works when it’s real. Folks can spot the faking a mile away—they can tell when you’re just going through the motions or if your heart’s really there. Energy don’t lie.
You don’t need to be the world’s best massage therapist, and you can be a perfectly okay yoga teacher, but if you’re good at being true to yourself—right there in your own skin—and helping people find that in themselves? Now, that’s where the real gift is. It’s what shifts things in folks’ lives, and lets them see the real wisdom right inside.
That’s the true magic, the real craft. It’s the kinda medicine that goes straight to the soul, right where it counts.
