We recently connected with Savannah Wyatt and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Savannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
When I first started Savvy Shotss Photography, I actually was so terrified to start my own business. I always told myself that my work wasn’t good enough, the market was to saturated, the area I am in will never give me the clientele I hoped for. I started doing photos for my friends and family shortly after getting my first camera. I did that just for fun; to learn my camera, the angles, poses etc. One day when I finished taking photos for a group of friends they asked me as we were walking back to our cars. “Savannah why don’t you start a business doing this” and I remember telling them “wow you actually think i am that good to do that? what if I fail?” and she looked at me and said “what if you don’t. what if you succeed. what if your only “failing” because you aren’t giving yourself the opportunity to be great”. That’s when it hit me and I started thinking, she’s right what if the only thing in the way… is me? Don’t I deserve to at least try? What do i have to lose?
That same night I looked into other photographers in my area: I quickly realized how expensive they all are. As someone who values having photographs of all life’s special moments I wanted to set my business to be the opposite; to be something that is in reach for people and families that can’t afford the hundreds of dollars it costs for photographers in today’s world. I believe everyone going through life’s moments should be able to have these special moments photographed within there budget. I also remember growing up and always having a hard time finding someone I could afford to take photos of my prom, graduation etc. Not only that but building a good comfortable bond with the photographer as well. It’s so important as a client to be comfortable with the photographer; it makes for sure a better experience for all parties and the photos come out with more raw smiles and emotions.. That is something else I strived for when starting up my business; to build a strong comfortable relationship with my clients to make there experience be beyond there expectations so they would continue to return through all stages in there lifetime.
Within that same week, I created a Facebook and Instagram page. I advertised discounted Easter sessions to try and get the ball moving. Getting my first client was exhilarating. The idea that someone thought I was worth the money to photograph there most important milestones and life’s sweetest moments was the most rewarding feeling I have ever felt. A few weeks later I launched the website. Since that day.. since that 1 client, my business has continued to flourish and has grown my clientele to people I never even imagined, and it is only the beginning.
I always think back to that moment; doing photos for free: thinking I would never be good enough to do this for real to now having booked schedules. Growing from only photos of my friends to now doing Couples, Families, Maternity & Newborns, Seniors, Grads, and Prom!! I have even photographed my first ever bridal shower! Through it all; I think back to that day, I think back of what would have happened if my friends hadn’t believed in me. I’m not sure what they saw in me back then… but I am so happy they did.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I created an Instagram, Facebook and Web page for my business. I use my own personal social media pages to export and share my business pages to all of my followers. I also have an amazing circle of friends and family who share my work on all platforms as well. I have business cards that have my website, Facebook and Instagram pages on them that I leave out in public areas as well. (park bathrooms, grocery store bathrooms, public bulletin boards etc)
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Referrals and Social Media! I encourage all of my clients to please share your photographs with family and friends! I also offer a 10% off referral discount for clients I gain through referrals. This has been a great way for me to get new clients. People see our work online or they have word to mouth conversations with some of my clients!
