We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Savannah Welsh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Savannah , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Back in 2020, when I was on my third year of college for dental hygiene, I made a decision that would change the course of my life entirely. I was a delivery driver and a full time student pursuing a career that I had no interest in, with no plan of where that would take me. Day after day, giving my time and energy to something that wasn’t meant for me, I knew something needed to change. But I didn’t know what that meant for my future. Do I stop going to school even though I’ve dedicated the last three years of my life to this? It was a hard and scary decision to make that came with so much uncertainty, but I believed that I was worthy of a much more fulfilling life than what I had previously set myself up for. Feeling lost, I sat in meditation. I asked my spirit guides and ancestors to provide guidance and I would do as they say. I know this may sound crazy to some, but for me, this is as normal as it gets. As I sat in still bliss, the idea came to me. Starting a reiki infused skincare business was something that, at the time, I knew nothing about. I didn’t even know if it was something that had been done before or if I could accomplish something like this. But I trusted the universe & had confidence in myself that I could pull it off. I was excited to start a business that combined my passions of energy work and beauty in such a special way. I enrolled in Aesthetics school & a level 1 reiki healing course to start my path. I learned so much about cosmetics formulation, holistic skincare, ingredients, the integumentary system, energy work, business, and so much more. I worked as a licensed esthetician for a while, specializing in microdermabrasion and dermaplane. I also practiced reiki whenever I could, on friends, coworkers, family, pets, myself, and even plants. Using my hands to help and heal others is so rewarding to me. I also love working with plants, which is a huge part of what I do! I was faced with many challenges going into a field I knew little to nothing about, but I faced all of the challenges head on whenever they arose. With many months of learning and planning, I was able to launch my business the following year. Erba Skin is a holistic based skincare company. I hand make each and every product and infuse them with Reiki. Skincare is more than just products. I provide skincare with high quality ingredients, well thought out and tested formulations, and healing energy capable of removing energetic blockages in the body.

Savannah , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a licensed esthetician, self taught herbalist, reiki practitioner, energy worker, and small business owner. I make witchcrafted herbal skincare infused with Reiki. I believe that there is much more to skincare than products. The skincare industry in general tends to push products as an end all be all. In reality, many different factors contribute to the health of our skin, and there are many different ways to take care of our skin. Personally, I’ve worked on hundreds of people as an esthetician. One consistency among my clients is that stress & hormone imbalance are the main contributors to a variety of common skin conditions such as acne or hyperpigmentation. Skin issues related to stress or hormone imbalance cannot be properly treated with products alone. Reiki, a Japanese form of energy healing, can be used to alleviate stress. Studies show that Reiki is associated with improvements of well being, emotional stress, anxiety, and depression. Receiving Reiki alongside using high quality herbal skincare promotes healthy skin and can treat various skin conditions. When I started my business, Erba Skin, I intentionally incorporated herbs that support skin health into every product. As a certified reiki practitioner, I am able to infuse every one of Erba Skins products with Reiki. This magical combination is unlike any other products in today’s skincare industry. I offer a variety of products like face wash, toner, serum, moisturizers, etc.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Connection! Make connections whenever you can through your business. Speaking from personal experience, connections made through business almost always end up as a customer. There are so many different ways to connect with people- and most of the time I do it right from my computer. I’ve made connections through social media, zoom groups, local events, there’s lots of options out there. Checking in on a customer and getting an update on how they like their product is a great way to show that you care about their experience using your product. Stay consistent and build trust with your customers. Anyone could be a potential client, so staying consistent, whether that be with content or production, is a very effective way to build trust.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
In today’s society, we are taught to always be working and hustling in order to make an adequate amount of money. It took me a while to learn that that’s not the case. In fact, we are able to be more productive when we are well rested and out of that fast-paced state. That’s the beauty of being your own boss, being able to rest when you need and work when you can. I’ve found that I’m far more productive and produce better content when I am well rested and in a state of peace.
