Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Savannah McGovern. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Savannah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Our company was actually intentionally built to stand out. In a sea of wedding planners who constantly churn out traditional weddings with traditional colors (that are gorgeous as well, no doubt!), we wanted to work with clients who aren’t afraid of designing a day that’s weird and unique. We love to work with kitschy designs, funky themes, and our favorite – dark, gothic affairs. I’ve always had a love for things that are off-kilter and I knew that there must be others out there that feel the same so I opened my doors with the purpose of being the one to support these couples in imagining and curating a day that fits their vibe perfectly rather than having them fit into traditional wedding look and events. Since opening our doors, many of our clients have exclaimed about how they were so excited to come across our company. I feel it validates them, and us, the so called freaks & geeks, theater kids, and goths of the world. We are here to “curate the extraordinary!”
Savannah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Moonbeam Weddings & Events is here to support our couples in many different ways! We love to work with unique themes and ideas so are always open to coming up with different and new traditions. Your wedding is exactly that – YOUR wedding. We love to throw out the rule book and brainstorm something fun. We’ve had receptions hosted by drag queens, weddings in a natural history museum with dinosaurs as a backdrop, and Burning Man inspired evenings to name a few! We offer a range of packages to make sure every couple that chooses to work with us has an affordable option. Whether that be simply coordination where we come in 45 days out to tie up loose ends to management & design to full planning where we take over every single aspect for the couple – we have a package that will fit their budget!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Whew – starting a business profile on social media is so tough! I hate to say it, but follower counts DO matter. Your numbers help to instill trust in your client. If you look at a company that you are thinking of investing in and they only have 100 followers that might make you feel uneasy but if they have 2k+ followers, you might feel more safe because they are more established. To get started, I posted our branding with inspiration images to help fellow business professionals and potential clients get a better understanding for our vibe while we built our portfolio. And, more particularly to the wedding industry, I hosted several styled shoots to push our branding and show clients what I could do. I also followed a hundreds of people in our industry both locally and nationwide that had similar imagery/branding. Many followed me back so that was a start! After that, its all about consistent posting and tagging EVERYONE involved with each photo. That means all team members and locations so that your content is shared to a wider audience!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I’m a stickler for fast and efficient communication so we rely heavily on emails for lengthier subjects and texting for quick back and forth questions. Most of my clients message me several times a month for quick wedding-related questions or opinions. We have fun with it too! I’m big on emojis and gifs because I want all my couples to feel like they have a personal cheerleader and hype girl, especially when considering about the fact that they are probably dealing with family & friends who maybe don’t fully understand their visions. I find that being open to chatting about anything helps to make us feel more like friends and gain their trust. This is key to our brand loyalty!
