We recently connected with Savannah Martinez and have shared our conversation below.
Savannah , appreciate you joining us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
Asking me who is my hero is is an easy answer, My Best Friend Jackie. We met in high school, ( My senior year, her sophomore year) her cousin was my little sisters friend and we met in lunch one day and that was it after that we were inseparable. A year after I graduated I got pregnant with my oldest son and married. We kept in touch every few months because you know life happened for the both of us. At the end of her senior year in high school we both found out we were pregnant together (my second her first). I watched her go through all sorts of emotions about this because since the day i met her all she talked about was going to UT and becoming a lawyer which I always just thought was the coolest thing ever! Watching her go to college at UT pregnant not once but through two pregnancies a marriage that wasn’t the best and graduating had me in awe. When she started her business in Rodan & Fields and brought me along really opened my eyes to our capabilities as women and opened my heart to wanting to be my own boss and make my own rules. From there I started my own business in party decor. Making Paper Flower Backdrops & Table center Pieces, which has grown into now doing laser cut and engraving pieces for all occasions. I watched her push through a divorce move back home to Texas from Florida with three kids in town and start her Company that now has bloomed into 5 yes you reading that right 5 businesses that she owns and is a mother to four beautiful kids now. I tell her all the time I want to be her when I grow up. Having her in my life has picked me up through hard times in my life as well as give me so much inspiration knowing that the impossible can be done!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my business Edens Savvy Creations in 2018 to help bring in extra income to my home to help support my family since I am a stay at home mom of 5. I never thought it would bloom into what it is today. When I was little I always knew I didn’t want to have boss. It started off with me just wanting to decorate my house when i came across pictures on pinterest of low budget ways to decorate and paper flowers popped up. I love flowers always have since I was a little girl watching my grandma take care of her garden and helping her. Looking at them and finding out they were paper i was instantly like wow how can I make these! So down the rabbit hole of youtube and more pinterest pins I started to make my own templates and got to cutting. I would stay up late at night and all through the day working on flowers how to put them together how to perfect the templates, till little by little people started to ask me if I can make them some for their parties or weddings and for bedroom decor so I created Edens Savvy Creations. I got my instagram page and facebook page and just started posting all the flowers and backdrops I was making I started teaching classes also at Michaels and in my home. Eventually my business bloomed into what is now with laser cut and engraved pieces. I still make home decor and party pieces but I have also moved into making QR codes and other accessories for small businesses.
We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
I sell my products on Etsy right now. Etsy is a great sight to start on with little overhead and very easy to use. I liked it because its well known and you can drive a lot of people to your store but the down side is that they charge you a lot of fees and thus you really need to make sure your selling a good amount of your products to bring in money to pay those and also walk away with money for yourself. Eventually I want to sell on my own Website.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I first got on Instagram with my business Instagram was just starting to get popular. I just started by posting everyday all day just posting pictures of anything and everything. Then i really started to look at other creators i followed and what they did and started to work that into my content. I started creating content of my work and making how to videos and showing how I made my flower templates and put my flowers together. I stayed consistent posting everyday and I also started to engage with others on their pages commenting on their work and people were driven to my page and my work. It is true when they say to stay consistent, people need to see you need to see that you are working and creating.
