Savannah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
About 10 years ago my vocal coach Gwyn Sanborn invited me to perform on a music show called Country Live At The Merc. It’s an Opry style show where local music artists are featured. I had never performed with a live band before so I really didn’t know what to expect. I remember nervously taking the stage. The band begin to play and this big grin came across my face. I looked over at my voice coach and all the butterflies had melted away. As I sang I felt at home. I was right where I was supposed to be. I knew then I wanted to pursue music professionally.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Music has always played a major role in my life. I grew up singing in church. By high school I had become very active in several choirs and joined a local theater group. As an adult I became apart of the West Coast Country Music Association where I found my niche Country and Bluegrass music. I begin competing in local competitions and moved on to represent the state of California in nationals ( North American Country Music Association International) where I am their seven time winning Female Bluegrass Vocalist and Entertainer of the Year. I took that momentum and began recording and writing with record producer Jason Brawner. I have since released 5 singles, my recent release and also award winning being “Roses In December”. I think one of the most exciting things about being a singersongwriter is being able to write about real life experiences and sharing that vulnerability. Roses in December was written from the heart. The person I had been dating was going through a loss. I could relate to that loss because I had also recently lost a grandparent. Through these unfortunate circumstances there was a silver lining. I found myself falling in love with him. In the bigger picture I learned that when we lose a loved one we go back and remember the times we had. In a sense God gives us memories so we might have roses in December. It’s my favorite song I’ve written to date and it’s available on all music platforms.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Bringing joy to others through music. If I can make someone smile, inspire them or if I write something they can relate to I’ve done my job.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
There’s so many ways you can support artists. Attending their shows, putting money in the tip jar, buying merch, buying their music, hiring them for an event. These are all great ways. But the number one way to support an artist is interacting with their social media. Yup it’s that simple. Like, follow, subscribe. Playlist their music, share their music, stream their music. Make stories, reels or TikTok’s with their songs. Are you seeing the theme here? Your interaction and your presence give them the confidence and encouragement to keep going.
