We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Savannah Jo. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Savannah below.
Alright, Savannah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Previous to dabbling in graphic design, I already used my business as a means of creating custom art pieces for friends and small clients. However, my sister knew I had an iPad and a passion for creating graphics in my spare time. She trusted and commissioned me to create a logo for her bakery, and the concept of designing a logo for a dream a person has cultivated for years was quite the under-taking. I quickly developed a passion for taking a client’s ideas and dreams and combining it into one image that represents their business, product, or concept. Through social media and word-of-mouth, my little logo business quickly turned into a Graphic Design business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Savannah Jo and I am the owner of Redemption’s Palette, a one-stop-shop for all things art! I began my business as a custom watercolor and calligraphy store, and now I have broadened my reach to Graphic Design. My most popular item is a custom digital portrait wherein I design a piece of art around a photograph of a couple, a pet, or an individual. I think the turn-around time on my products (usually within 24 hours) is what sets me apart from the competitors–obviously Faceless Portraits saturated the art-marketplace in 2020, and so I pride myself on offering a fully-detailed portrait for a similar price. I also provide free alterations until a client loves their piece enough to hang it on their wall!
How did you build your audience on social media?
I cannot stress enough the importance of having a Personal Assistant and Social Media Manager! Kinnsey Tripode with Konsultations has single-handedly changed my social media presence. She has given me tips and tricks to increase engagement and post-quality, and she has come alongside me for my bigger projects throughout the year (holiday sales, Santa Letters around Christmastime, etc.) As a small business, I know I cannot afford an assistant at all times but having an as-needed assistant who can cover the administrative side of things I don’t excel in has been a game-changer!
Does your business have multiple or supplementary revenue streams (like a ATM machine at a barbershop, etc)?
Outside of custom artwork, I also have a RedBubble shop open at all times where customers can sort through my designs and order them at any point on fun items such as clothing, stickers, magnets, phone cases, and even masks. Having this secondary site where I’m gaining passive income allows me to invest more into my custom art tools, and it’s always fun to get a paycheck for a design you made years ago!
