Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Savannah Jewell White. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Savannah Jewell, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
As an artist, I create meaningful connections working closely with my clients to help tell the stories of their lives. Most all of my work is travel inspired, and I think people really grasp on to that idea of wanting to bring beautiful memories they share with loved ones to the intimate spaces of their homes. My art has been an integral part of some of life’s biggest milestones and celebrations which grounds and enriches my life in a special way. I’m humbled each time I have a client gifting my art as wedding gifts, graduation, anniversary presents, or even to a loved one finishing cancer treatment.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Savannah Jewell White is a painter based in Memphis, Tennessee. She discovered her love for art as a child growing up in Memphis. Today, the city continues to provide her with an abundance of artistic inspiration. Savannah’s artworks also draw from her extensive international travels.
From Brazil to Croatia, the travel bug is not simply adventure for White but inspiration. Her intellectual curiosity and cultural inhaling takes shape and is expressed in her paintings— some more abstract, some more representational, all breathing a spirit of irrepressible wonder in fluid color and motion. The influence of her time abroad is vividly present in her more recent paintings. Whether she’s treading across new territory or frequenting familiar spaces, Savannah has a unique knack for approaching every encounter with fresh eyes and enthusiasm.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think oftentimes non-creatives look at art and feel intimidated to attempt to interpret it. Most people want to be told how to feel, what to see, etc. I have endless work that never sees the public eye because my art studio is my corner of the world where I make sense of the world around me. Just by looking at a finished piece of art, the viewer does not necessarily have the chance to see the pain, sorrow, fear, or joy that accompanies the richly beautiful creative process. There is always more than what meets the eye.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I just finished 19 pieces for a body of work surrounding water. In conjunction with painting this series I have been enjoying reading, Blue Mind: The Surprising Science That Shows How Being Near, In, On, or Under Water Can Make You Happier, Healthier, More Connected, and Better at What You Do.
More of my favorite titles that helped to spark my creative journey include, “The Artists Way” by Julia Cameron, “Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert, “Untamed” by Glennon Doyle, and “The Creative Act” by Rick Rubin.
