Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Savannah Halboth. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Savannah, thanks for joining us today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I have been thinking about legacy a lot lately, I recently read a friend’s father’s obituary and was incredibly impressed by his life and in turn the incredible legacy he left behind. That got me thinking about what my obituary would say (a bit morbid I know) but what would the highlights of my life be? What would I want people to remember about me and my accomplishments in life. I hope my legacy involves helping small businesses with their marketing and detail presence, I hope my legacy involves helping animals especially dogs find homes and fight cancer. I hope my legacy reflects how much I love and am devoted to my family and friends. I hope I am remembered as thoughtful, hard working, loyal, and fun to be around. I try to always add to any situation I am in and help out any way I can.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Savannah Halboth I am a Colorado native currently living in Denver, Colorado. I have a marketing degree from Colorado Mesa University and have over 10 years experience in marketing with a speciality in social media marketing. I got my start when working for the Westword newspaper as a sales rep when one of my clients asked me to handle her business social media. This was not a service currently provided by Westword because the idea of marketing a business on Facebook was a fairly new concept in 2015. We created a business page and started promoting it as Denver’s official Detroit Lion’s bar. The word spread and business picked up a lot, especially on game day Sundays! The owner was so pleased with the results she told her friends, the referrals came in quick and I suddenly had 4 clients paying me a monthly fee to handle their business pages on Facebook. After a few quick months I decided to quit my job at Westword and become fully self employed as a contract social media marketing expert. As cliche as it is to say the rest is history that’s really the case here. Now seven years later I have 18 clients varying from sports bars, to a mini golf course, to insurance brokers, to a cupcake and ice cream shop. All my clients are different and I pride myself in providing customize services depending on their needs and business objectives. I am reliable and always meeting with and checking in with each client so they know I am always available if they need something from me. I post any where once a week to daily for my clients and have broadened my services beyond social media to include email campaigns, texting services, website maintenance, and even some graphic design. I enjoy any challenge and will do almost anything to help my clients out!

Have you ever had to pivot?
After getting married in 2019 I thought I had unlimited job security, in that there’s no way 18 businesses would suddenly shut down and not need my marketing services. Well then 2020 came and I realized nothing is certain, when the pandemic hit and the majority of my clients had to shut down I was terrified by all the unknown. Life slowed down a lot and I was thankful my husbands job didn’t slow down. Fortunately the shutdown didn’t last long and my services because even more critical to get the word out about the ever changing status of local businesses. Were they open, offering take out, delivery, were masks required, was the staff vaccinated.. etc. My weekly meetings with clients shifted to calls or zoom meetings and all of us just tried to stay on top of the newest guidelines and rules. I also was pregnant and fave birth in August of 2020. After having a baby I realized my priorities changed, I no longer could be available 24/7 365 for any and all of my clients needs. Before if a client would text or call me I would pride myself in getting that task completed within minutes, but that was no longer possible while navigating a newborn’s very busy routine. This was more of an internal struggle and pressure I put on myself which required a pivot in my mindset and also in the expectations I set with my clients, who were all more than understanding.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I dont care about my own social media audience but I do spend the majority of my efforts building my clients presence on social media because reach and followers equals customers and sales! I always have clients start by inviting their friends and family to like the page, a 100 or so followers might not seem like much but they help make the page seem legitimate and often the first few hundred followers are the hardest to get so why not get a little help from friends and family. After that I think the key to building an audience is frequency, posting regularly and during peak visibility times, I also think original and interesting content/images is very important. I like captions that are short but also have a point, asking questions or spreading the word about an offer or deal always helps. From there it just takes time, sometimes a lot of time to really build up and maintain a social media following.
