We recently connected with Savannah Crawford and have shared our conversation below.
Savannah, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
It all came about over a course of time, honestly. I was initially inspired by a funny candle I saw a woman selling on facebook, I ordered it and when it arrived I liked the idea, the design was very, very simple lol but it worked. That motivated me to start designing labels on canva and putting them on candles I purchased from the dollar store. I would list the candles on facebook marketplace for resale, after selling over a dozen in one day I just knew I wanted to turn it into a legitimate business. The first few months I really just focused on my designs and finding inspiration but because I was dealing with depression and processing a break up it became increasingly difficult to really stay motivated. After going through the motions of life and heartbreak I got tired of being unhappy. I wanted to find my voice again, and that’s when Cockytale was born. I wanted to transform my art into something that anyone could benefit from by designing a variety of labels that were unique, uplifting, flirty and fun. I designed with the intent to inspire, I purposely reminded myself of my value by speaking it, thinking it and seeing it. Adapting these changes allowed me to upgrade myself, my thoughts and continue to help me advance my life and endeavors.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
As a kid, I never knew what I wanted to be when “I grew up”, I just knew I wanted it to be significant enough to make a difference in my life. Once I reached high school, I set my eyes on college to pursue a career in the entertainment industry but that dream quickly fell flat when I graduated during a recession and couldn’t land a job or internship in the field. My dreams quickly started to fizzle as I moved back in with my parents and needed to earn an income quickly. After landing a decent yet unfulfilling job in the finance industry I decided to jump start plan B – I became a flight attendant! I spent a total of seven years traveling around the world enjoying the best life had to offer. As they say, all good things must come to an end and in due time circling the sphere was no longer my life. I was terminated as a flight attendant in 2019 and that single event changed the direction of everything. Less than six months after my termination I started a remote cleaning business with one of my best friends and that kicked started my entrepreneurship journey. In the beginning it was all such a learning curve and I really didn’t like it but as time went on I started investing in developing my knowledge of business, in a short amount of time, entrepreneurship indeed became my dream job. The mass amount of opportunities and possibilities is what continues to keep me intrigued. This journey has made me fearless and I think that fuels me, I see an end result and there’s nothing that can stop me from reaching my goal – I might get discouraged and often rerouted but I never felt more aligned with anything in my life. My goals literally wake me up each day and I’m honored to be able to achieve them.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of my favorite mottos to live by now is “…the time will pass anyway..” – It helps remind me of the very beginning of my journey when I thought it would all come together in days or just a few short weeks. I remember thinking the amount of Instagram followers determined your success and when things weren’t happening in the time period I wanted, I would want to quit. One day, I was talking to my mom and she compared my business to a marriage and that analogy really helped bring a new perspective. I was in a partnership and my responsibility was to raise and nurture my business with realistic expectations as I would have of a child. I learned that the time will pass anyway and I could work on raising my business or focus on what’s not working. I have been developing Cockytale since 2021, ideally it all would’ve come together in the first year but it just didn’t workout that way and if I would’ve stopped working on it then, I wouldn’t have this opportunity now.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
No, I don’t manufacture the products, although I wouldn’t mind learning the process but I became familiar with drop shipping a few years back and always thought the concept was pretty smart. My cleaning business taught me so much about that industry so I really wanted to try a business model that didn’t require much labor or much overhead. After testing vendors I found one that works great for the business and customers.
