We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Savannah Brody a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Savannah , thanks for joining us today. Any thoughts about whether to ask friends and family to support your business. What’s okay in your view?
My name is Savannah Brody, I started my floral business about three years ago. Not knowing it would turn into what it is today. I started by making some floral arrangements for myself and my friends, which then proceeded to grow fast and fast with orders and then asking to do a wedding for the first time. Not only have friends and family been a huge part of me being able to have an at home business, but also to be able to provide for my family and be a more present mom. Friends and family have given me support and love, and I want to continue that support by continuing this business and to be able to bless future brides with beautiful Florals, and a small business that comes from humble beginnings. I am so thankful that I have been able to do as many weddings as I have the last three years, and that’s only because of all the word of mouth, connections, and sweet friends and family who have made that happen. I cannot wait to see what happens from here on out going into 2024, and to see more and more families come together during those wedding seasons, And to be able to be a part of that sweet time.

Savannah , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From first starting as a hobby, To becoming a mom and needing an outlet I found that doing florals was the perfect way to be creative but also be a present wife and mom. Looking back over the last three years I cannot believe how much growth has happened in my life., thanks you to all the help of friends and family and connections thay have made this business successful. There have been hard times, sweet times, and all of these have continued my growth in the floral business and as a Individual. It is such a sweet experience to go through the process of seeing these brides dream visions of their wedding come to life, and to be able gain friendships. the sweetest part of that all is seeing their expressions on the wedding day. They get to finally see what they envisioned in their minds since they were kids, now be right in front of them . It’s such an honor when customers choose Brody Decor to do their weddings because I feel included in their wedding adventure. Doing weddings not only it is hard work but it is something that I continue to strive to perfect and make everyone’s wedding experience more beautiful and sweet.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Being in the wedding industry is a big task and journey to be on. You have many different opinions, ideas, personalities, and this all falls into one day and all of these are coming together at once. I have found myself to be a confident person and how I was raised, my skills, and who I am as a person. When there are times when you cannot perfectly please somebody it can hurt you as a person, and your confidence in yourself. I’ve had to learn from experiences with certain personalities and people that you sometimes cannot make them 100% happy all of the time. Flowers are a chance to make someone’s vision come to life. But everything does come at a cost. Florals can be beautiful small and large, but due to costs and expectations those can drastically change. Learning to make promises I can keep, expectations I can meet, and being upfront when I know I may not be able to do something. I’ve had to learn this through experiences that have been hard and challenging. But they have made me into a better florist and person. I’m thankful for these hard times I’ve had a learning, and learning to be a florist on my own. It is come along way to be able to do what I can do now, and to be able to be confident with the flowers I do provide for people.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Finding out I was pregnant with a huge change and what I thought I would be doing with my life. Not expecting a pregnancy so soon in so early in my life I decided to find a hobby that would fit into my husband and his life and now our new son. Only being 21 years old when I found out I was pregnant I needed something that would be a social job. Flexible, and something that would help provide as a new mom and new wife. It was hard to find something that was flexible with hours, and also was some thing that I enjoyed and fit within our lifestyle. Being a florist was the perfect fit for me to be able to be home with my son, be a present wife, and to be able to have a creative outlet when in the midst of being in a busy life. I couldn’t be more thankful for this season that I had because it got me to Where I am today
