We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Saul Gomez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Saul below.
Saul, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The biggest risk in my life right now is the lifestyle I’m leading. In my line of work, constant risk-taking is essential. In the creative field, growth and progress often come with a leap of faith. Choosing to pursue a career in social media was the most significant risk I’ve taken, as nothing in this field is guaranteed. I can’t predict whether the upcoming months will be good or bad; all I can do is give my best every day and trust that my efforts will pay off. The three major risks that led me to my current position were dropping out of school to pursue acting, facing the challenges brought by the onset of COVID-19 shortly after, and working as a mailman for USPS. Initially, my decision to pursue acting seemed misguided when the pandemic disrupted my plans. Although working for USPS was considered a success by societal standards, I soon realized that I despised the job. Despite the good pay and benefits, my creativity was dwindling, prompting me to quit, even if it meant disappointing my family.
Uncertain about my next move, I found employment as an Amazon delivery driver. It was during this time that I delved into podcasts, eventually starting my own, which turned out to be a success. Although the income wasn’t enough to sustain me, I decided to take a bold step. I sold my car, eliminated unnecessary monthly expenses, and took the risk of quitting my job to fully commit to podcasting. Since then, I have never looked back.

Saul, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been creating comedy videos since I was 11 years old, fueled by an inherent passion for the craft. Back then, I did it purely for the enjoyment, uploading videos to YouTube without giving it much thought. Making content that brings joy to others has always been my favorite pursuit. The positive feedback and the ability to make people laugh kept me motivated. As I grew older, I expanded my horizons by hosting and participating in three podcasts, all of which achieved viral success. By staying true to ourselves and sharing relatable life stories within the Latino community, we became a hit. Building on this experience, I ventured into consulting for other podcasts, guiding them to reach new heights of virality.
One of my proudest moments was seeing my achievements as a Mexican American creator recognized with a billboard in Times Square, the largest billboard in the area. What matters most to me is letting people know that I aspire to be of service. If you have a dream and need that extra push, I am more than willing to motivate and inspire you to pursue your aspirations. I want to be the support system for anyone who needs help realizing their dreams.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
An important lesson learned on this journey is the significance of being open to every opportunity that comes your way. It’s essential to develop the ability to interpret signs from the universe that can guide you in the right direction. If you had asked me five years ago if I envisioned having a business in podcasting, I would have been utterly confused. My aspirations were geared towards becoming a writer or an actor; the podcasting space was not on my radar. However, when podcasting unexpectedly entered my path, I decided to give it a shot, thinking, “What’s the worst that can happen?” During the recording of the first episode, I discovered numerous areas for improvement. Instead of giving up, I committed to refining every detail, determined to see what I could make out of this unexpected venture. Along this journey, I began creating social media clips, which immediately gained viral traction, affirming that I needed to persevere and continue down this path.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most fulfilling aspect of being an artist or creative lies in the profound impact you have on the lives of others through your work. Through our podcast, we’ve forged a vibrant community of friends rather than mere fans. The connection runs deep, united by shared humor and inside jokes that make our fans feel like an extension of our friend circle. It’s heartening to hear stories from our listeners about how our content helps them navigate challenging times, providing a source of laughter when they need cheering up. The podcast has allowed me to connect with a diverse range of individuals – from celebrities and business professionals to intellectual minds and those who simply bring joy into my life. Each encounter, each story, has left an indelible mark, making this journey immensely gratifying and, overall, my favorite part of the creative process.
