We recently connected with Sauce Papi and have shared our conversation below.
Sauce, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
My entire life has been centered around taking risks, whether they have been financial or life altering. The most recent risk I’ve taken was in 2019 when I quit my 9 to 5 to fully pursue my music career without any distractions. It began beautiful with finding myself with having nothing but time on my hands to work on my craft. I started to dive right into my passion and even managed to make some celebrity connections with artists such as Mike Will Made-It and Slim Jxmmi. As time progressed, I ran into the issue that was bound to happen, which is financial struggle. Bills were piling up and life began to get a bit difficult. It was also apparent that I needed money to support my career. Long story short, my no job stint came to an end in 2020 when the Covid pandemic came and I ended up losing my apartment and had to relocate to another city to regroup.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a music artist from Memphis, TN. I began my start in music around age of 8 by making beats on FL Studio. I gravitated to recording myself around the age of 12 rapping on my answering machine and recording songs with an mp3 player. At the age of 16 I decided to pursue music professionally. I was in love with sound. 11 years later I’ve amassed over 60 music videos and have released 16 projects (mixtapes and albums). I most proud to say that to this day I’m still very involved with every piece of my craft. I produce, record, & mix all of my music and shoot & edit all of my music videos.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing your ideas come to life is the most beautiful part of being a creative. Every release is like showing the world photos of your new child, ha! Most rewarding is when the world celebrates with you.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
As a creative in general, the world doesn’t realize that you are 2 different people. The first person is who you were born as. This person comes with their own financial hurdles, family troubles, and personal obligations. The second person is the artist. This person has their career to fund, has very little working room outside of their day job, and lives a life against the grain of society’s norm. There is a double life that one must live until the desired lifestyle becomes the dominant.
