Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sativa Minerva. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Sativa , thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I risked the life I knew for the life I desire on multiple occasions. Growing up in a smaller city, I knew I needed to relocate to a large city with bigger opportunities. Music has been my passion for as long as I can remember and when you love something that much you risk it all for it. I left my hometown in pursuit of musical networks and opportunities and made my way to CA. Moving to CA has proven to me the risk was absolutely worth it!

Sativa , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
From church to elementary I was enrolled in choir. I continued learning to read and write music throughout high school. I entered competitions and auditioned for solos. I sang the national anthem at assemblies and graduations. I realized my talent and started auditioning for modeling and casting calls locally. I auditioned for “Making of the band” in Minneapolis and they told me I had the voice & look but I lacked the confidence & stage presence. I went home and joined the cheer team so I could build my performance presence.
After I graduated I spent a year working and saving up to move across the country to FL. I auditioned for more reality shows like “American Idol” “America’s got talent” “The X factor” before I realized I could start recording on my own. I moved to VA and started working with multiple producers developing my sound. I moved to CA and started from scratch but this time with more experience. Within the first year I met my now good friend Hookmonger who introduced me to a network of creatives that have helped really guide me on my journey these last 2-3 years. I’m most proud for never giving up no matter how many times I had to start over with nothing.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I do feel like I’m on a mission that was assigned to me before I arrived on the planet. I’ve had this vision as a kid, I’ve had premonitions in dreams come true in real life. I feel touched & guided by God. I can’t really explain it but I know it’s about love. I’m supposed to inspire and touch as many people as possible. I believe I’m spiritually a vessel.
Personally the love I have for my mother and family drives me to keep going. We didn’t have much growing up and I just want my mom to experience her wildest dreams. I
want to take care of family. I want a farm on a compound were we can all live near eachother.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best way to support an artist is to support them directly. Share their work, go to their shows and support. If there’s merch pick up a Tshirt. Go directly to their website and something they control rather than their IG or social media platform. If they have an app or way to directly receive their music versus Apple or Spotify definitely go the direct route. They will be forever grateful.
