We were lucky to catch up with Sathara Foxworth recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sathara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
Starting my business took a few life steps. I was on my first natural hair journey and I noticed that so many products available in the store were either too expensive or just had way too many chemicals for my liking. I am a person that has very sensitive skin and what you would call “fussy” hair. Not just anything will do the trick for me.
So, with this issue at hand, I thought to myself, “why not just make things myself? Can’t be that hard”. I went through every avenue that I could to educate myself on what has worked for other people and what could work for me. I researched YouTube, read books on natural resources, scanned google for hours; all while taking all the notes I could before deciding on what to do next. Once I felt ready, I tried out a few recipes I saw online and added my own spin to it. The first thing I started making was skincare products. I made a Body Butter and Sugar Scrub made from various oils and Shea Butter. Two things that were hard to mess up on the first try. They worked beautifully! Next, I made a Body Wash and a shampoo made from Castile Soap which also worked very well. From there, I had the strong desire to make more and branch out.
I continued making my own products and soon others took notice at how much better my skin and hair looked. They started asking about what I have been using and once they heard that I’ve been making things myself, the orders started rolling in. That was just the spark I needed to turn this into a career.

Sathara, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As I stated before, this all began with a desire to enhance my own natural beauty as naturally as I could. Once I started to receive orders from others, my desire make this into a brand got stronger and stronger.
I am naturally a very disciplined person, so getting myself to start working on a business plan, name and brand wasn’t hard to get started on. The name, Meet Mrs. Nature, came to me solely on liking to also keep things simple. I thought “what do I want people to know about my brand as soon as they see the name?” The name should be something that grabs you and lets you know what to expect just from reading or seeing it. What I want is for others to see and experience what natural products can do for you and how it can be so beneficial. So….everyone…Meet Mrs. Nature!
What am I most proud of is me accomplishing so much on my own. Establishing your own brand/business is not an easy thing to do and certainly not for everyone. It takes dedication and a willingness/fearlessness to try things out and possibly fail. It takes the desire and mental fortitude to keep going, to keep pushing for your dream. To always learn from your mistakes to become better and better at your craft. That is something that I would like people to know and something that I would give advice on. Never give up on yourself. Always strive to be the best YOU can be.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I want to have something to hand down to my children. I have two girls and I want to make sure that they know how to be independent and work for themselves. I want to be able to give them a legacy, a family business that they can in turn pass down to their children and so forth. I want to make sure that they know how to create things for themselves and what our natural earth can provide for them.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
What society can do best to support artists is literally just that…SUPPORT. It is easy for “big business” to push out the smaller ones due to our lack of resources. Small businesses don’t have as much access to the funding, advertising or even the workers to push out products as much as we’d like.
