We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sasha Wilson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sasha below.
Sasha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’ve been very blessed to be able to work on and be a part of some very meaningful projects since I’ve been in the entertainment industry. Whether it be, Fashion, Music, Film, Television or Live entertainment, it has been very amazing and I’m always learning something. One of the most recent has been touring. I’ve had the opportunity to work on some live tours/concerts for two major artist and one major brand/company within the month of September as an assistant. Just to be able to work with talented teams of people that really inspire me and learning the ins/outs of touring and live shows. I like to ask questions, build relationships and gain new skills. I like being a part of these projects behind the scenes because it allows me to learn and be a role in what leads to the result.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Sasha. I am a Signed Model, Singer-Songwriter, Actress, Tour Assistant and Nursing Student. I got my start in the industry by doing a photoshoot in New York. One of my friends back in the fall of 2020 had told me that I should start modeling and I was just like “no I don’t look like a model ” and stuff like that. I later thought that it would be cool to do a shoot because I felt that my Instagram photos were basic haha, so I found a photographer on air bnb experiences and we shot. I had so much fun and the photographer told me that I had really good poses. After I posted those photos I was scouted by a casting agency and I worked with them for some time but then I began to maneuver my way through the modeling industry and made a lot of connections by networking and worked on building up my portfolio. I was scouted by my current mother agency and signed with them. I’ve always been very passionate about music I began signing and writing when I was 8/9 and my vocals are a part of who I am. Music is me. When I was little I remember looking up how to work in the music industry and how to be an A&R because I loved music so much haha I was only like 8. But its really cool how I have been blessed to as an adult be involved and work my way there. I have performed at a few shows mostly in 2021. I want to release music that I have written and record songs that I have. I love singing and writing but I also love being behind the scene with music as well. I’ve recently volunteered for the non profit organization “She Is The Music” which was founded by Alicia Keys to empower women to work within the music industry and also provide resources and opportunities. I have networked with many women in the music industry and have been blessed to have the opportunities to gain new skills and work behind the scenes. I got into acting by so far being background on films and and TV. I am very excited for the release of those. Outside of the Industry I also am a college student studying to receive my BSN Nursing. I do a lot! Rarely am I ever just chilling at home (which is really nice to do). I’m just always on a go mindset. I am working towards my dreams and I know that one day everything will pay off. I’ve seen myself improve so much and accomplish more that what I would have dreamed years ago so that always reminds me that hard work pay off! You just have to keep moving and building.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect is knowing that I love what I do. It’s very important to enjoy what you do so that it doesn’t even feel like a job but that you’re happy to do something because you love it. When I have to be up early in the morning to be somewhere for modeling, acting or music related I can get up at like 4 or 5 am in the morning to get ready because I’m happy and I love what I’m going to be doing. At the end of the day, its all about being content.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
You really can’t care about what others may think of you especially when it comes to you goals and dreams. If it is something that you know you really want to do, make a plan and work towards. Not everybody is going to support you or be happy for you, but you just have to keep your mind positive and your eyes on your end goal. Hang with people that inspire you and motivate you. Learn, ask questions and insert yourself.
