We recently connected with Sasha Sewell and have shared our conversation below.
Sasha , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
I always enjoyed, and thrived in reading. It was as if I was going into a new world each time I read a book. Whether that book was romance, mystery, horror and/or self improvement. I always admired the ability author’s had to capture and create. I wanted to do that for black women and brown people all around. My books incorporate other cultures, and traditions that are known. Or the ones that are not known but are cool to know.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I always was a reader and writer. I was reading before I could speak. And well, the writing came naturally. I would write any and everything creative, from poetry to short stories. Or even screenplays.
I enjoyed crafting a world with no limitations, anything can be designed and made.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I honestly wish I knew the process of how to get the book properly formatted and ready for ordering. Everything with getting the book distributed and into the hands of the consumer.
That was a challenge for me. Because I am a perfectionist and I want the best for what I know my readers will cherish.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Creating a world that a reader can enjoy the story. I want to give them an escape. Or help jolt an idea or a new way of thinking. If I could do that for my readers! Then I will feel accomplished. I want the reader to have fun in reading my books, leave it up to them to interpret and bond with the characters.
