We were lucky to catch up with Sasha Owens recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sasha, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I am happy I started it exactly when I did. I am happy I invested in me exactly when I did. For instance, I’ve been in interviews and meetings and the moment I said, “I have six published books,” … eyes get big and start looking around the room. I have been releasing books since 2015 and counting. Each year I released a book it wasn’t the easiest. I didn’t feel the biggest. However, NOW❓I feel huge. And I’m just getting started. GET STARTED. It’s always significant.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Wow, well for me this answer expounds more and more each year. I’m an actress and I am currently one of the faces of CANTU (cantubeauty.com). Yep, that’s me with the blue braids. I’m an author I’ve published six books. Two are poetry names “Voices Unveiled” and “Voices Continued”. Three are new adult novels, “Sex & Attention” series. And the most recent one is a children’s book about vitiligo named “Spotted”. Vitiligo is a skin condition I was born with. Michael Jackson and Winnie Harlow both have this also. Lastly, I’m a silly, motivational, content creator. This also gets me bookings at concerts and more. I recently was at Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and I had a great time there. I was also helping out at Kevin Hart’s comedy shows. Pretty much my career makes me available for a lot of things and if it seems fun I’m always down to work it. One of my motto’s I live by that I got from Billy Ray Cyrus is, “If you love what you do then you never have to work another day of your life.”
How did you build your audience on social media?
Simple. Be you. I had moments before social media was popular and jobs would see my social media and not want to hire me. However, now my social media is seen and I am hired instantly. I am paid and motivated to continue being me. I do not sugarcoat anything on my social media either. I discuss topics of all tiers. So at some point if it even looks like it’s not working out… then that just isn’t for you. What’s meant for you will always come.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There may come a time where you have no one on your side. There may come a time where your finances are out of order and it seems everything is going wrong. I promise that is the season the strongest version of you is being created. And as hard as it may seem place one foot in front of the other and keep it moving. Everything will come into fruition over time and when you look back you’ll see as clear as day how even those toughest moments were truly helping build you. Connect with your inner self. Learn what brings you peace. Discover how to make yourself happy. Build your selflove. I told a friend recently to write me a list of 5 things that made her happy. When the list is done, do those things and in a way make it a ritual. Do this especially on any day you’re feeling unhappy. Seek you for happiness. God gave us so much power, use it.
