Today we’d like to introduce you to Sasha Goldstein.

Hi Sasha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art + design have always been a passion of mine. Growing up, my mother was a graphic designer pre computer era… Art supplies and the encouragement to be creative always surrounded me. When I was 7 or 8 my parents let me decide how I wanted to paint my room. Each wall was a different color (or multiple colors, with stripes, etc), but they stuck to their words and let me have full creative freedom to see my vision through!

After many years working in the design industry for other companies, that creativity and drive transformed into starting SMG Collective where my core values are the foundation of the business. Caring about the environment, what goes into making each piece, with natural materials and no toxicity is very important to me in my personal life. Each line SMG represent is ethically made by artisans near and far with focus on handmade custom area rugs, modern furniture, lighting, and interior accessories to suit all environments.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
SMG Collective began in May of 2018, in just a short year and half later, our whole world turned upside down and came to a halt with Covid. In 2020 my year was mostly spent having panic attacks about my business surviving, mixed with constant pivots in attempts to keep my business alive. Thankfully, after four challenging but successful years, SMG Collective has made it through! Owning your own business is a constant rollercoaster… however incredibly rewarding at the end of the day. What sets us apart from big box companies is the level of curation, care, and hands on service we provide to every client we work with.

At the core of SMG Collective is our 20+ years of experience + knowledge of sourcing ethically made hand-woven area rugs from artisans worldwide. Custom is our focus, we help build our clients environment from the floor up with design execution, color palette, texture, and sizes that compliment their environment specifically.

Sharing our expertise and being able to guide our clients to create the interior and exterior spaces of their dreams is incredibly rewarding. We care about the environment, how each of our products are made, and what compliments your lifestyle best.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Music has always been a huge passion of mine. More often than not, Pandora is streaming shuffling our favorite stations. Favorite authors include David Sedaris, Haruki Murakami, + Jonathan Safran Foer. Books for me are more about escapism, laughter, and getting outside of my own head and reality.
