We were lucky to catch up with Sasha Blaim recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sasha, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of my passions about my job is not only being a photographer but being recognized as a professional image creator and fashion expert. I believe my psychology education, helps equip me with the innate sense of style and professional eye for fashion. I thoroughly enjoy to witness the transformation of my clients as I prepare them for a photo shoot. I typically take them through a unique journey where I absorb their energy and used the state of their feelings to tailor the creative process for each individual. I encourage people to reveal their inner beauty and style in ways they may not have realized even existed.
I have 15 years of experience in the fashion industry. I’ve been fortunate to work with celebrities, shoot in high-profile magazines, as well as work with actors preparing for films or television programs. Each experience is meaningful and a learning experience in its own unique way. Applying this technique has helped me service over 5000 happy customers many of which frequently come back my permanent clientele. I just always emphasize to each of them to be yourself. Nobody else is like you. Fall in love with life and the moment. This helps both of us achieve our goals when we work together and allows me to work across the globe with many amazing people.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
When I was pregnant with my first daughter I decided to absorb myself into fashion and photography. Prior to this I was working as a Brand and Marketing Manager in different foreign companies- Beaty brands, clothes, fitness industry, vodka brands and etc. While I learned a lot in that role that I still apply today this was never completely my passion. Blessed to be a mom and new beginnings I decided to chase my dreams. My mother had a hobby as I was growing up in design and creativity. She was an artist, designer of clothing and it felt very natural to follow in her footsteps. While in Russia I worked within a large team to help actors and actresses perfect their fashion before they went into films or television. As part of my team , I was lucky to work with a highly talented professional photographer. As I decided to chase my passions in Miami, I struggled to find any such photographer at this caliber to work with. And as a result, I decided I would try my own hand at photography. It wasn’t long until I realized I loved it. As an aside, my father’s hobby was photography as well when I was growing up so not only that I carried on some of my mom’s legacy but I also fused that with my father’s and I’m very proud to be inspired by both of my parents within my career.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I was fortunate to grow up in a family that appreciated art. As I mentioned my mother loved design and creativity and my father’s hobby was photography. They frequently exposed me to museums and a full range of culture from a young age and I’m fully aware not everyone has this opportunity. They not only taught me art but they taught me how to appreciate art. As I shoot photography I am meticulous about the details of fashion, pose, illumination, expression, etc. This attention to detail was taught to me early on in life. I believe it’s never too late though for people to absorb themselves in creativity and learn to appreciate another’s artistic capabilities. I encourage everyone to go to museums, read, understand the history, techniques, and trends in art. Many people do not know themselves and sometimes deny the diversity of their personality. It’s easier for us to be in an atmosphere of comfort, where everything is familiar and clear. In my work, I delicately take a person out of their usual comfort zone and begin to highlight other sides, revealing this in the process of working with style and in photographs. In art, we see an object that is familiar to us, and sometimes through the prism of the past, but if we start looking at it from the other side, removing all the templates and standards of the familiar, then depth opens up. Why did the author start working with what he wanted to show, what to tell about… If you begin to look deeper into this, then art has opened up for you from a greater perspective. At the same time, personal inspiration occurs, filling and expanding consciousness and perception of oneself and the world around us. art, and in particular working with style and living a new version of yourself in photography is a powerful tool for developing the best version of yourself.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Coming to the United States offers a world of opportunity but it is not always been easy. Living in Miami was a new environment for me and starting a career in fashion and photography doesn’t monetize over night. One particular challenge was not having a network in the area. I didn’t know anyone and I needed a team. My background was as a fashion stylist but now my passion was to manage and create the entire capability. Finding the right people to augment my skillsets was a challenge. I needed people to assist in creating the concept. I needed people to assist with the fashion, the design, the equipment, the logistics, and ultimately the photography. This ultimately was one of the reasons I took up photography myself because that was the one gap I could never satisfy within my search. It has taken a lot of hard work. There were times that I struggled to pull together the winning solution, but persistence always pays off. I followed a dream. I love the happiness I bring to my customers. Whether they be children or adults I can create for them a memory that they will cherish forever if I do my job with perfection.
