We were lucky to catch up with Sash Moreaux recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sash, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Almost every product if not every single product is custom made, small batch curated and hand packaged. The bases are purchased from holistic natural sourcing agents and the formulas are esthetician envision and chemist advised. Which provides estheticians and their clients with professional grade transformative skincare products with out the risk of developing long term damage.
Sash, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Meaux Co was founded and created by licensed esthetician me, Sāsh Moreaux. I saw a need in the industry for a professional grade, highly concentrated line, that aligned with her Life principles, transformative as a an acne prone- licensed professional, vegan and plant inspired as a more holistic approach person, earth conscious as an earth loving woman and animal cruelty free- but again CORRECTIVE. I couldn’t find a line that offer all of these things with Chemical Peel, Kojic Acid and All the ethical attributes. So Meaux Co began. We are a small family business. Meaux Co is an Esthetician-founded and formulated skincare company, where nature and science unite to create the latest advancements in plant-inspired, vegan professional skincare. All Meaux (pronounced “moh”) Co. products are uncompromisingly cruelty-free and free of extra and unnecessary synthetics & fillers. We use sustainable, recyclable containers. We are also package-free, have a plastic-free initiative, and are currently about 95% plastic free. Our products are concentrated, herbal, and botanical. Women-owned and operated, Meaux Co. is made by estheticians for estheticians. In fact, our team of Account Mentors currently teaches skincare classes, training other estheticians in Meaux Co.’s skincare protocols & our devices. Our team packing and shipping team are all family. Available online, Meaux Co. offers professional grade, concentrated natural skincare with no minimum order ever and 50% off wholesale pricing for licensed professionals.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I was a full time esthetician instructor at a college in Las Vegas while working on Meaux Co part time. After three years- I had built up enough business to where I would be gone from work 60% of the next 3 months – so I put in my notice to the school to leave and fly full time solo with my business. My first day solo- last day working a full time job – just so happened to be on the first day of the pandemic lockdown. I panicked because I just went solo- and now didn’t qualify for unemployment. I worried how my business would stay afloat and if I could support my family. I decided to pivot my education based business to add in my skincare formula I have been working on. The line only had three items prior to the pandemic- but because of the pandemic I created a full line and it was my best selling year in all three years during the midst of a world wide pandemic. This lesson taught me to always be open to new opportunities and to not let fear and outside noise affect the way I move within my business in a negative way. I only move with a growth mindset.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I grew up in a poor household. We didn’t have a lot and my relationship with money exhibited that. I was ignorant about finances, credit and how to properly manage money. I have had to unlearn several lies about money. 1. My customers budget is not my budget. 2. All money is not good money. 3. Money is not evil, it is not bad – rich folks aren’t bad – Money is a tool- it’s what you do with it that makes all the other perceptions true or false.
