We recently connected with Sascha Alexander and have shared our conversation below.
Sascha, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
When I turned 30 I stopped wanting balance “dayjobs” with my acting career. I loved my artistic life, but I wanted greater stability. Never knowing what would happen to my schedule week after week became less and less cute the older I got.
I also got clear that acting, even when I was succeeding at it would always be feast and famine. And underneath it all, I am a stability-craving creature. I wanted sovereignty over my time and earning.
I had a relationship with God at the time because of my eight years in 12-step recovery. Sitting at a cafe on La Brea one afternoon I asked my Higher Power very directly how to transition to something else: “Show me how I can use my gifts in a prosperous secondary career that I LOVE.”
A month later, I was working with a Health Coach who supported autoimmune patients. I was blown away by her work, by the service she provided, her depth of knowledge, the way she empowered her patients.
And it all clicked “I could do this.”
I was already talking to other sick people all the time, unofficially coaching and supporting them, and being supported by them back. I had already had a powerful coaching experience with my coach and mentor Amber Krzys, 2014 when I had hired her during an uplevel in my acting career as well.
I was inspired by the work. I saw how clearly aligned this was with all my gifts and passions. And I saw the freedom entrepreneurship would give me to do my art and support myself.
I signed up for a six-month health coaching certification and never looked back.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I help people turn dreams into projects.
My clients resolve old pain that’s holding them back and transform their lives towards the highest expression of who they are in the world.
We go for what they want most, and together, create creative ways to achieve that.
My intention is for my clients to live the most fulfilling, inspired and impactful lives possible, and for their coaching to be a launch pad for them to move towards that life with boldness, confidence, and commitment.
There are demographics I tend to serve more than others: Hollywood artists coaches and entrepreneurs, patients navigating chronic and mystery illness, and those looking to create healthy relationships or heal from codependency.
But I’ve had clients from all walks of life.
I’ve worked with an ultra-runner, helping her heal familial relationships. I’ve worked with a start-up founder and helped her navigate the demands of leadership. I’ve helped people find life partners and navigate the dating process from the healthiest place within themselves! I’ve even walked someone through the process of having her first child. For her, finding the courage to build the loving family she wanted was a life-changing project and worthy of investment.
Coaching projects can be anything that is a heart’s calling for that person. Anything that is worth an investment of their time, money, and energy to create.
I work in long-term packages, six months minimum, so my clients and I have time to really move the needle in their lives.
It’s beautiful, inspiring, depthful work.
I also run some phenomenal group coaching programs! Two for Hollywood Artists looking to grow their careers and experience new breakthroughs professionally, and one for coaches who want to uplevel their businesses through inspired community.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn politeness to become the coach I am today.
To be someone’s coach in a way that is truly impactful, you have to tell people the truth–even if it’s hard for them to hear. Even if you worry it might make them not like you. Even if it’s something the client may not want to face.
You have to ask questions that no one else will be willing to ask and confront things with people. Disagree with them. Hold them to a higher standard, the standard they hired you to hold them to! Even when they are collapsing inside.
That is not something I knew how to do in my original programming of PLEASING.
Like so many women, I was brought up to be agreeable and accommodating. As a child I was shamed when I took up a lot of space, either with my body or my voice, my desires, my needs, Godforbid, my anger. One thing I was especially taught not to do was say something that could be hurtful to someone, even if I thought it, even if it was obvious, or even if their behavior was hurting me or others.
All of that had to go in the process of growing my business.
This was BEAUTIFUL. EXCRUCIATING. And wildly LIBERATING.
I cannot recommend enough learning the art is clear, direct, neutral and loving communication. It is a revolution for every client I share it with–especially the women. To heal this planet, we need all of us to be able to highlight a problem we see, to reflect something we are experiencing, or share something we need without the inflammatory defensiveness so many of us were brought up with.
Unlearning that polite was the BEST way to operate in life was huge for me as a human, and a business owner.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Wildly serving any person I come across in my business from a place of sincere heart-centered generosity has been my most effective strategy–by far. When someone’s life is dramatically altered from a coaching conversation or from a coaching investment, that person becomes a walking testimonial for the work and a passionate advocate for others to experience what they have.
By pouring care, intention, presence, and passion into my work with my people, by always endeavoring to be better in my own growth process, and bringing everything I learn in my own life directly to my clients, I’ve become a trusted source of transformation for them and their communities. And through that, referrals flow in.
Giving it all away–book recommendations, time, care, investment–has helped me have more than enough for myself.
