Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Sarvin Haghighi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Sarvin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Meaningful projects are important because they add depth and purpose to our daily lives. They provide us with opportunities to express our creativity, share important messages, and collaborate with loved ones, enriching our experiences and strengthening our connections.
Creating something visually appealing with a meaningful message allows us to communicate ideas, evoke emotions, and inspire change. It’s a powerful way to make a positive impact on others and contribute to a greater sense of beauty and meaning in the world.
Moreover, involving our family in these projects fosters teamwork, communication, and mutual support. It creates shared memories and strengthens our bonds, enriching our relationships and creating a sense of unity and belonging.
Overall, meaningful projects weave into our daily lives to remind us of our capacity to create, connect, and contribute to something greater than ourselves. They bring fulfillment, joy, and purpose, enhancing our well-being and leaving a lasting legacy of positivity and inspiration.
Sarvin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Sarvin Haghighi, and I draw inspiration for my art from a diverse array of sources, including Persian antiquity, contemporary Iran, Farsi calligraphy, and Islamic architecture. This fusion of influences results in captivating pieces of art that marry traditional elements with a contemporary flair.
My journey as an artist has been shaped by my experiences growing up in Iran, where I witnessed the challenges of war and the erosion of basic freedoms firsthand. Since relocating to Chicago in 2013, I have sought to channel these experiences into my work, infusing it with depth and meaning.
I aim to transcend mere visual aesthetics by incorporating calligraphy into my compositions, often featuring the poetry of thirteenth-century Persian poet and Sufi mystic, Rumi.
In my artwork, I strive to offer more than just visually pleasing imagery; I seek to provide solace, reflection, and hope. By blending painting, poetry, and calligraphy, I pay homage to tradition while offering a sense of tranquility in our fast-paced modern world.
What sets me apart from others in my field is my unique blend of cultural influences, my commitment to infusing meaning into my art, and my dedication to providing a sense of peace and inspiration to my audience. I am most proud of the emotional resonance my work evokes and the connections it fosters with viewers.
Ultimately, I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that my art is more than just a product—it’s a reflection of my journey, my values, and my desire to bring beauty and meaning into the world. Whether through paintings, calligraphy, or poetry, I aim to create works that speak to the soul and offer a moment of contemplation in our hectic lives.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One particular experience from my journey that highlights my resilience occurred during my transition to life in Chicago after leaving Iran. Moving to a new country brought its own set of challenges, including cultural adjustment, and starting anew in a foreign environment.
Despite facing these obstacles, I remained determined to pursue my passion for art and continue expressing myself creatively. I poured my energy into my work, using it as a means of navigating the complexities of my new surroundings and finding a sense of belonging in a foreign land.
Through perseverance and dedication, I gradually built a network within the artistic community in Chicago, forging connections and opportunities that allowed me to share my art with a broader audience. Despite the initial hurdles, I remained steadfast in my commitment to my craft, allowing my resilience to guide me through the inevitable ups and downs of life as an immigrant artist.
This experience taught me the importance of resilience in the face of adversity and the power of art as a tool for self-expression and adaptation. It reaffirmed my belief in the transformative potential of creativity and reinforced my determination to continue pursuing my artistic endeavors, no matter the challenges that may arise.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my view, there are several key steps that society can take to best support artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem.
By investing in arts education, providing funding and resources, promoting diversity and inclusion, creating opportunities for collaboration, and recognizing the value of art, society can best support artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem. Also finding innovative approaches to encourage gallerists to be open to meeting and potentially presenting new and upcoming artists regardless of their age or background.
