We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sarina Freincle a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sarina, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I realized that I wanted to pursue becoming a full-time artist after I ran for a local office in 2022. I didn’t win, but it gave me a different outlook on myself and my community. Going after your dreams requires a certain spirit, and the only requirement is courage. After the election, I was exhausted mentally and physically. I needed something that would get me back to myself. I started painting, it was and is my therapy. It was the calm I needed and a way to create a space all my own, expressing myself and sharing it with the world.

Sarina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey into painting began with a nostalgic trip back to my childhood in New York. I remembered how I used to sketch trees behind my home, unaware that painting would soon become a significant part of my life. Growing up, visiting museums was a cherished pastime, ingrained in the fabric of my upbringing as a New Yorker.
However, it wasn’t until the pandemic hit that I truly delved into painting. In search of a creative outlet during uncertain times, I picked up a brush and began to paint. What started as a pastime quickly evolved into a full-time passion in 2022. I refuse to confine myself to a single artistic category; I create abstract pieces, design charcuterie boards, delve into digital art, and paint portraits—all based on how I feel in the moment.
What I’m most proud of is the freedom I have to create without boundaries. I make it a point to paint or draw every day, honoring the privilege of pursuing my passion. The pandemic acted as a catalyst for my artistic journey, pushing me to explore new avenues and pivot my entrepreneurial endeavors. I started a garden, hosted Facebook live auctions to sell my art, and eventually launched my own company, A Beautiful Distraction.
Despite the challenges, I’ve persevered, selling my first commission and participating in several art events. Now, I’m eagerly preparing for my first solo exhibition. Through my journey, I’ve learned that there’s no “right” time to pursue your passions. It’s about following your heart, practicing your craft, and embracing the creative journey without constraints.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As an artist, the most fulfilling aspect for me is the freedom to create without limits. I have the liberty to express myself in any form or medium at any time. While some may comprehend my work and others may not, each piece I create reflects a part of me intertwined with the creative process, which is truly remarkable. It is my dream to have my artwork displayed in international exhibitions and to be appreciated and acquired by collectors worldwide.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
For me, building an audience has been a gradual journey. I’ve discovered that sharing my creative process resonates with many people. Being transparent about the highs and lows of my artistic journey has allowed me to connect with others on a deeper level. I believe that by staying true to myself, my audience will naturally find me and offer their support.
