We were lucky to catch up with Sa’renn Floyd recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sa’Renn, thanks for joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
Growing up my parents never told me who I should be, they let me figure it out on my own. They gave me the freedom to become the woman I not only wanted to become but needed to become. I was never afraid to be myself or try new things. They let me enjoy being a child and taught me what it looks like to enjoy life. My mom and dad both went out of their ways to let me have birthday parties every year and I could always invite whoever I wanted. I had many amazing birthdays. With my dad being a chef there was an abundance of good food and fun. I appreciated my parents because they never made me feel like an outsider in my own home. I recognized at a time age that I had something a lot of my kids my age didn’t have, which was freedom. I know many children would have taken advantage of the type of freedom I had but I was honestly just grateful I had a say in groceries and could eat whatever and whatever I wanted. I never felt like a burden and I always felt free to just be in my home. That’s what my parents did right.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a personal chef and actress. I’ve been cooking basically my whole life and acting since I was 15. I attended culinary school at Cuyahoga Community College and received my personal chef certificate back in 2019 where I was in the process of creating my own company. Two years later, Serene Cuisines was officially born. I always knew I wanted to heal people with my food. It wasn’t until I started studying holistic health and nutrition that I understood what that meant for me. I’m currently in school studying dietary management so that I can better serve my clients as a nutrition coach.
As an actress, I started on the stage of Cleveland School of the Arts and I now currently work in film. I work with Loud Diamond Entertainment and we work together to dream, create, and inspire other hidden and talented individuals. We released our first full feature Revenge House on YouTube and are currently shooting a short series called She’s My Reason. Both of these are currently available on YouTube and will soon be available on Prime and other platforms.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Healthier people, happier world. I genuinely believe people would be happier if they could be healthy without feeling the pressure to do what somebody else did. Everyone’s health goals are different and we don’t need to do the same thing everyone else is doing. Healthy looks different on all of us and I’m determined to take the stress out of being healthy.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being able to choose. When you work for other people especially in non creative environments you don’t really get to choose how to work and what you create. You do it the way it’s done in the company it they time limit you’re given. As a creative, especially as an entrepreneur, you can create what you want when you want. The best créatives don’t just serve the customer or clients, they serve themselves too. When you’re creating something that means a lot to you it hits different than just doing it for the money.
