We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Saraii Fairy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Saraii, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Since I was little girl, my imagination has always been wild. I’d spend hours daydreaming about anything and everything. As I grew up, I struggled to express myself verbally, so I turned to other forms of expression like fashion, flipping through magazines, and listening to all kinds of music. These things still inspire me today. Lately, though, nature has been my biggest muse. There’s something magical about being surrounded by trees and streams. My best ideas come to me when I’m out on walks in the woods or by a creek. That’s where the name Saraii Fairy comes from—it’s a nod to those natural inspirations.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a model, photographer, and creative director. Those are the medians I chose to express my art but that is not limited. I started modeling in 2020 as a way to just help friends with projects and for fun. After my first big shoot, creatives in Baltimore would reach out for me to help with their ideas and just be their muse. I use modeling as a way to express my ideas and as of recently I picked up my old hobby of photography to really help execute ideas better. I consider myself a creative director overall. I use modeling and photography as my medians to execute flawlessly.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
I believe a big priority for myself, and fellow creatives is authenticity and trusting your artistic vision. Art, in any form, holds immense transformative power. In the past, I struggled significantly with comparing my work to others’ and dealing with perfectionism. If things didn’t unfold as expected, I often found myself harshly criticizing my art. However, I’ve come to understand that genuine growth stems from trust and faith in one’s creative process. Continuously comparing and excessively critiquing oneself only serves to hinder artistic development. It’s super important to trust in your abilities and persevere. Keep pushing forward, and success will follow.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I am genuinely passionate about the art I’m creating at this moment. My love for music and fashion fuels my vision for the future, where I envision myself involved in photoshoots or contributing to the creative teams of music artists. However, above all, my primary goal is to remain inspired and committed to art that resonates with me.
