We recently connected with Sarah Washington and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
Yes, I created Sarah Around SA as a way to highlight local businesses in my community, combining my love for food and culture in San Antonio.
However, I was initially inspired by my Aunt Sonja, who is also a foodie blogger in San Antonio, https://instagram.com/breaking.bread.in.sa?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y in SA. She and I used to run around the city taking pictures and eating new foods. So I started my own account to document our adventures together!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sure! So, I started my blog back in 2018. I decided to focus on San Antonio, as I was born and raised here! It means a lot to me to try and get back to my community through exposure to local businesses.
I studied Communication at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I graduated in 2020, and during my time, I learned a lot about social media marketing. I used that knowledge to apply more strategy behind my content with Instagram. It’s helped me grow my account to where it is now!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Another strategy I use is to post engaging content. I will seek out new, local businesses or events that people are interested in learning more about. This will encourage my audience to share my content and engage with it more!
Is there a mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is just to provide exposure to new and local businesses in the area. I think it’s a really fun way to highlight the businesses owners who really deserve it!
It’s also a great way for me, personally, to see my city and really cherish the community that we have in San Antonio. At the end of the day, I just want to create memories for myself, and highlight my amazing city.
