We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Vaughan recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I hope to be remembered for how I make people feel. I always strive to make people feel heard, seen and loved. It is why I love photography so much- It’s a way for me to say “I see you, you are so loved.”

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, I’m Sarah! I quickly fell in love with photography when I was 14. It was a way for me to showcase how I saw the world around me.
I love all types of photography- but my true love is weddings. On such a big, joyful, sometimes stressful day, I try to be a source of calm for my clients. My ultimate goal is to be more like a friend than another vendor. I spend at least 6 hours with my couples on their wedding day- it’s important for us to establish a good relationship.
I am very proud of the relationships I have built and the memories I have captured for my clients. At the end of the day, it’s not so much about the photos themselves but how you feel when you look at them. In 5, 10, 20 years all you will have from your wedding day is your photos and videos. I want you to look back and see a perfect representation of who you were and feel how you felt on your wedding day.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being a creative is life sustaining for me. I have not spent a day in my life without a million ideas in my head. I have always wanted to be some kind of creative- I have always loved music, cinematography and photography. For me, being an artist or a creative is such a love letter to the universe. When I look at my wedding clients, I think about the billions of other people in the world and how many little things had to happen in order for these two people to meet and fall in love. It is so rewarding to meet so many people in love and say “This is how I see you”. All love is so beautiful and so rare, and capturing so much of it is something I will always be grateful for.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think a big misconception is that photographers just stand there and click a button all day. I realize it may be how it looks- but there is so much work that goes into being a photographer. On wedding days, I am photographer, coordinator, emergency solver, and so much more. There is so much work that photographers do before the wedding day arrives. Hours of planning, meetings with clients, permits, insurance, vendor meetings, engagement sessions, more planning meetings- this is all before the wedding day. On the wedding day, your photographer is making sure things run as smoothly as possible for you. (Not for the photos, for YOU!) I have had the privilege to learn from and work with some of the best wedding photographers I know and they are some of the hardest working, dedicated people you will ever meet.
