We recently connected with Sarah Tule and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I think I first knew I wanted to pursue art professionally in high school. Our art teacher, Mrs. Noland was pleased with my work and self motivation and entered me into her higher level classes. That same year I sold both of my pieces at the annual art show. I had always enjoyed creating but those sales made me realize that maybe people were excited to buy my work.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started off as a professional artist right out of high school. My parents were not thrilled. I spent all summer selling my work at different art shows. Then the following year I got my first invitation from a gallery. I’ve been painting and drawing for 15 years now and my work is available in several shops and galleries including Periwinkle Fog in Grand Rapids MI, Northgoods in Petoskey MI, Sault Art Center in Sault Sainte Marie and a few more.
One of my proudest moments as an artist was when one of my paintings was featured on a billboard through Save Art Space.
To keep my art as a full time job I teach classes, sell work through galleries and shops, maintain my website and enter my work into exhibitons and shows. I also take on the occassional commission project.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
One of the most rewarding things about being an artist is watching people connect with my work. I love to see their eyes light up when they recognize a place I have drawn. I love speaking with them about their memories there.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Some things that can support artists and their work don’t have to cost any money. Its as simple as liking their posts on social media, sharing the art (with credit) commenting on social media posts and spreading information by word of mouth.
Its also very helpful to visit galleries and shops. If you like an artists work, buy something from them. Art makes great gifts!
It really hurts artists when people turn to AI generated images.
