We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Sarah Tate a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Often the greatest growth and the biggest wins come right after a defeat. Other times the failure serves as a lesson that’s helpful later in your journey. We’d appreciate if you could open up about a time you’ve failed.
After seemingly having my whole life plan figured out- having always wanted to go to law school, I had numerous life challenges during law school, including a divorce. After finally making it through those three years, I geared up to take the Bar Exam and failed it the first time. However, that failure was a blessing in disguise because I wouldn’t haven’t the career I currently have if I had passed the first time.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a sixth generation Wyoming ranch kid who grew up with a love for agriculture and law. Both of my parents are ranchers and lawyers so I thought I wanted to do the same. After I graduated from law school at the University of Wyoming, I was helping with a case at the family law firm. We were getting an unfavorable decision that I was passionate about so I got out my phone and made a TikTok that explained the case. The case went viral overnight and we were able to use it to gain public awareness to the issue. After that, I started being asked to make social media posts about different agriculture legal topics to bring awareness to them. Thus, Wild West Advocacy was born. I use social media and my knowledge of law to influence public opinion regarding certain important agriculture and natural resources issues.
I create social media content. do lobbying work, write articles and speak all over the nation. I use my expertise to show those in urban areas why they should care about the issues that people in rural areas face. I have the ability to take complex legal issues and boil them down for people who have not attended law school. In a time where people are not only interested in western industries and culture, it is important to also show them the hardships that those industries face. It is also important to deliver that information in an entertaining way. I have been able to use my two decades of public speaking experience to provide entertaining presentations about what could otherwise be boring subjects. Certain aspects of pop-culture such as the hit show Yellowstone have actually aided in my ability to teach about these issues. While most of Yellowstone is highly dramatized, they hit on important legal issues that farmers and ranchers deal with every day. Some of these include, water issues, eminent domain and endangered species. I have created some content that uses specific examples from Yellowstone to teach how the laws work in the real world.
I am different from others who work in this space because I am just as passionate about these issues as I possibly can be.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I had to pivot after I was “temporarily suspended” from TikTok for 10 years. That was my biggest platform and am currently pivoting to use other platforms to keep my audience.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
