We were lucky to catch up with Sarah Seidelmann recently and have shared our conversation below.
Sarah, appreciate you joining us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My dad always encouraged me to go for it! At age 10 he suggested that I drive us home from my friends house in the family station wagon. I had zero drivers trainjng education. I was 10. I made it about 2 blocks before I drive up over a curve (turned too hard). You didn’t need to be qualified at my house, just willing to learn and fail!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I left my medical practice in 2010 to take a sabbatical. I was curious about what made people “well”. I had been a disease hunter for so long. I stumbled into the shamanic path after spending the summer in the woods wandering. Wild animals became my teachers and guides and, eventually I learned how to connect to the spirits of those animals. I discovered that expressing yourself through dancing, singing, painting, writing, and telling stories you could restore yourself! I’m so proud of the many people who I’ve gotten to partner with to begin expressing themselves. on my own path of self expression, I’ve written 7 books since then and in the past three years have started painting. I’m in love with the way art making is such a surprising and wonderful process. These days my work involves Communitues who are interested in cultivating more calm And creativity in their lives.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
I wouldn’t change a thing. My career in medicine was a wonderful adventure and taught me about focus and concentration. That skill is something I treasure now as a Shamanic practitioner and artist!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think that radically being myself and following my own intuition as to what my “people” needed from me has always been best. Trying to guess what others want or what “successful” people are doing was not fruitful for me. I had to find my own way.
